The Insatiable (DVD, 2007)

This is a movie that both my husband and I really liked, and that's rare. Even stranger is the fact that we both laughed at the same times in response to the some of the funnier moments. I love horror flicks, and after seeing a DVD trailer for this movie, rented it on a whim. I expected it to be standard low-budget vampire fare, but it was much better. The dark humor laced throughout provides a good contrast to the gore. Most of the acting is surprisingly nuanced and the lead actor is perfect for this role. The lead female, although not exactly a mesmerizing actress, will at least please viewers who enjoy watching caged women prowling around in impossibly sexy teddies. The premise is intriguing - watching the lead character slowly change from a browbeaten deadbeat to a man who is truly wrestling with the best and worst urges within him, is great to watch. And the ending, while overly surprising, is definitely satisfying. There are a few slow parts at the beginning, but it's worth it if you tough it out and watch the entire movie. I will be buying this for future viewing and it's a good candidate to earn a devoted cult following over time.
