Best remembered as an early member of the groundbreaking rap group N.W.A., Arabian Prince rose to prominence during hip-hop's shift from electro to gangsta-rap in the late-`80s. Though he never reached the kind of notoriety achieved by his former cohorts Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, Arabian, with his boisterous party-time rapping and tough "Planet Rock"-style beats, was instrumental in defining the classic West Coast electro-rap style. INNOVATIVE LIFE, a collection of the rapper/producer's best work (recorded between 1984 and 1989), provides a much-needed glimpse into an often forgotten chapter in hip-hop's history.
