A Comprehensive Treatment Of A TRUE Story

I am always a bit concerned when Mr. Grisham strays from the 'lawyer tales' that built his reputation - but here he proves, once again, that he's GOOD at whatever subject he tackles.

'The Innocent Man' is drawn from an actual case in Oklahoma, of a man wrongly convicted of murder - and eventually freed by DNA evidence, after serving several years in prison. As you listen to the story, you come to realize how, given the right circumstances or coincidences, this nightmare could happen to ANY OF US.

The story gives us extensive background of the man wrongly accused, details of the trial, details of his prison experience, the battle by family members to gain his release, his efforts at recompense after his release, and more. A very good read/listen.

This book was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! I was amazed. It not only talk of the wrong conviction of Ron Williamson, but the wrong convictions of other innocent men. What an eye opener!!! Craig Wasson is a fabulous reader! This is a must read for everyone.

  Great Book

Once again John Grisham has outdone himself! Looking at death row and executing people for crimes they didn't commit is a major topic. John Grisham brings us into that world and sheds light on it. I'd recommend this book to anyone who is for against or undecided about the death penalty!

Great Read along with Journey Toward Justice by Fritz
Review created: 12/10/06

Loved this book and had to read more about story. So I read the book Journey Toward Justice by Dennis Fritz which is his memoir and John Grisham calls Compelling and Fascinating. Dennis Fritz is the real character in John's book who was exonerated along with Ron who passed away. Dennis Fritz does not want only to be known as the man who was wrongly imprisoned. He would like to be remembered as the kind of man who always tried to be fair and extend himself pleasantly to others and As someone who went through hard circumstances but came out OK. I admire his Strength, Courage and Faith. I am also glad he had the fortitude to tell his whole story. Both books are a must read.

I bought it as a present for my wifes birthday. I liked it because it was signed. The only thing i dont like about buying a signed book is you never know if its real. It would be nice if ebay could some how find a way to solve this. But besides that the book was in Excellent condition and from the three signed books that I have purchased with Ebay this is the one she can't put down.

Outstanding novel. Could it happen to you?
Review created: 05/22/09
by:

This is an excellent novel about how it is very possible to die without even being involved. I know enough about the criminal (in)justice system to know that it is entirely possible.
It's scary to think that anyone could be a victim, not of breaking the law but, rather, of circumstances. And, if not fairly and passionately reviewed and defended, die from the results.
I'm not a bleeding heart who is against the death penalty - to the contrary, I'm a pretty red-necked supporter of 'you do the crime, you need to do the time.' However, it is both possible to get away with murder and, as this story points out, get convicted for nothing.
There are also a few sub-plots and twists-and-turns that keep you on your seat. You'll go from 'what's happening here' to 'Wow, that's a twist' to 'uh-oh, that's not good.
I great read.

I read the unabridged CD version of this book and it was long, but well worth the read. True to Grisham the end is a suprise, but very much not what you would expect. Highly recommended!!

Probably one of Grisham's best. Unsettling topic.

My whole life has been in law enforcement. That being said, I found it quit unsettling knowing that a man can be convicted of a capital crime on such flimsy "evidence". Making it worse was seeing the whole system collapse like dominoes. The most bothersome to me is that this book is not fiction.
Grisham is a master writer, but this is likely his best.

The Innocent Man - What a nightmare
Review created: 05/02/08

Let me say this first, I beleive we have a good judicial system if it works right. This is a true story of what happens when people in control don't use thier power right or don't care. Please don't let me get caught in this county of Oklahoma, and have the officials think I'm guilty. I probably couldn't afford my own attorney and would get one like they had.

Although this is not in Grisham's fiction area, it's still in the legal vain. I liked it....
