This book was recomended to me by a my grandaughter. This sequel to the successful INKHEART is equally compelling for young readers who wish the pages of a book could come to life.I recomend this book to all ages from 12 to 100. The story moves along at a rapid pace and quickly draws you ino the stoy. as you read more about the charters you met first in Inkheart , and adds new charters as the story continues. i beleive that all book readers wish that at one time or another a book they were reading could come to life so they could meet their favorite charters, with inkspell and ink heart Funke has brought this wish alive. What I like the most about this book as there are no places in it where you have to force your self to read to get to another exciting part. What i liked least about it, is that it ended. Now i have to wait for the third book to be written. A great book for readers that enjoy Harry Potter.

Youngsters will love this labyrinthine, open-ended fantasy, which continues the story begun in Inkheart, Funke’s previous novel in which a book comes to life. Dustfinger, who can do magical things with fire, wants to return to his old world, a strange parallel universe that he can enter only if someone in our own “reads” him back into a story rewritten to accommodate him. When he finds someone who does just that, his abandoned apprentice Farid, aided by his modern-day 14-year-old friend, Meggie, goes off in search of him.

Welcome to an enchanted medieval world in which too many “readers” and “writers’ make for unpredictable twists and turns, and visitors struggle to set things right, sometimes at cross-purposes. The novel has a huge cast of memorable characters – old and new -- with a vast array of powers. It is crammed with action. Familiarity with "Inkheart" is not strictly necessary but is highly recommended. Brendan Fraser’s exceptional reading is energetic and creative. He not only gives each character a very distinct voice, but he also provides his own sound effects!

sparks and burns like one of Dustfinger's magical fires
Review created: 09/29/06

This book pulls you into its world before you ever read a single word. The cover is gorgeous, enchanting, and irresistible. And the story is true to the promises it makes.

Inkspell begins a year after Inkheart ends. Familiar characters such as Meggie, Dustfinger, Mo, and Farid return for another adventure...this time in the Inkworld. The mood is darker, and the plot and subplots are more complex.

Cornelia Funke masterfully gets inside her characters' heads to tell the story from the point of view of a variety of key players. Descriptions and details are beautifully written, with intuitive use of similes and metaphors throughout.

This is a suspenseful, captivating, and unforgettable fantasy. Inkspell sparks and burns like one of Dustfinger's magical fires. Its dancing flames will kindle your imagination and its flickering embers will linger in your heart long after the last page is turned. --Lana Jordan, author of "Journey to Motherhood" and "The Sleepytime Ponies Trick a Trickster"
