A very good read. I ordered this book for myself and my granddaughter, she had gotten the sequel as a gift, and you can't read the one before the other! Arrived promptly and in the condition as stated.

The magic of words and the love of books...

Wow, what a thrill ride! I am exhausted. The author has put all the elements of a good children's fantasy series together, combined with moderate peril, and throughout added a love of books. Very clever, being that the kids are learning a good message: That words are very powerful. A thick book to get through, but well worth the read! Recommended for ages 12+. 5 stars*****

I love this book! It moves a little slow in some parts, to be honest. But Its really good.
Its a little predictable, but for my daughter it kept her turning the page. I think its a wonderful childrens book and I have told every one about it, best of all, Its worth 23 AR points!

I found the books to have great pictures. The books were shipped in a timely manner in good condition. I would like to see the shipping to be a little less expensive.

I like the way the story is presented and the action in the book. The characters are described so well you can picture them as you read the story. There is a great amount of detail through out the book. I could picture the story as I read it.

  Harry Potter for Pre-Teens
Review created: 04/08/08
by:

Give this one an extra star if your child is a pre-teen and loves fantasy. The basic story involves 12-year old Meggie who lives with her father, Mo. Meggie's mother apparently ran off when Meggie was very little. The appearance of the odd Dustfinger results in a cross country journey to Meggie's great-Aunt Elinor and ultimately into the domain of the evil Capricorn and his band of Black Jackets (including the knife-wielding Basta and the thuggish Flatnose). All of this results from Mo's (known to the inhabitants of Inkheart as "Silvertongue) ability to read characters out of books. This is apparently how some of the inhabitants of the book "Inheart" came into our world and how, as we ultimately learn, Meggie's mother disappeared. Capricorn wishes to use Mo to bring useful characters and treasure out of books. The rest is a series of chases, imprisonments and a clever ending leaving room for the sequel contained in Inkspell. As an adult, while clever and well-written, the book struck me as a more juvenile form of Tolkien or JK Rowling. The fantastic elements and plot are more juvenile and less sophisticated than the intricate plots and twists of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and the Harry Potter series. Nevertheless, a good read and one which I think most pre-teens would like.

Very good, for children of all ages
Review created: 12/18/07

A gifted reader, and healer of precious and rare books, Moe has the ability to read people into and out of stories. This gift, that becomes a curse, keeps him from ever reading aloud, especially to his daughter Meggie, for fear of what might happen.
What Meggie doesn't know is that years before Moe unwittingly read some very ugly, violent men out of a book called Inkheart. Now he is on the run from these characters who want to use Moe's gift for their own devices. A task that is neither easy or predictable. Another kinder, gentler character Dustfinger helps Moe to escape, but he has his own motives for he wants to be read back into Inkheart.
So begins the story. Who among us hasn't at one time or another wanted to become part of a much loved story? Be careful what you wish for...

A book full of fantasy and stories that literally come to life. The characters from the book come to life as the words are read aloud. It's an exciting adventure that will take you away from the cares of the world and you will revel in the wonder of the magical land that comes to life out of the pages of Inkheart.

I liked the inside cover discription and bought the second book in the series. When I decided that I liked it, I thought I should go back and get the first one before I went any further... I am glad I did. It is a cross between Harry Potter, Narnia and Bridge to Terabithia. Clever, creative and full of wonderful characters. I can't wait for my kids to get old enough to read it for themselves.
