The Raj
I had recently read, several times, Paul Scott's trilogy called...?...The "Jewel in the Crown," I think. Perhaps that's the name of the first volume. Anyway, "Indian Style" seems almost to have been produced to illustrate these poignant novels about the dying British presence in India and all the ramifications of that slow death. I had a copy of this book some years ago and inadvertently lost it. So I bought this copy through eBay. I especially like the way the authors have presented the work - very little commentary, no judicial remarks, just the extraordinary images. I commend the authors for their restraint, their tasteful selection, the way they have isolated the most pungent and telling images of these amazing societies. These pictures repay much study and reflection.
