Indian in the Cupboard

I bought this for my 4 year old grandson, after viewing it previously from a relative's collection. The story incorporates imagination, multi-cultural aspects, sensitivity, empathy, and other desirable elements looked for in a story for the younger generation.
The story bridges not only a time gap, but a cultural gap as well, but on a level that even a youngster can at least partially understand. Bias and prejudice is also introduced and dealt with, with a very desirable outcome. The story line is fairly easy to follow, with good actors and language that would be acceptable for almost any age level. There are a couple of minor swear words that could have been omitted and not bothered the theme of the tale, so one might want to take this into consideration when deciding who to let watch this video. I've heard worse on network news, but that is rationalization, and doesn't excuse the fact that for a film aimed primarily at a young audience it wasn't necessary. There is also a very minor amount of violence, if it can be qualified as such, incorporated into the story, but it is almost necessary to get to the desirable conclusions reached via the story line.
All in all, the video is probably worth a look, but I would advise viewing it prior to letting a youngster view it for the first time, and decide for yourself how much the undesirable elements will influence that child, given his or her background and maturity level. The mute button is also handy if you are overly-concerned.
