Indian in the Cupboard
This is one of my favorite children's books. I know the Indian speaks in a very sterotypical way, but there is accurate information about Native Americans of his time period. The story, however, focuses on the young boy Omri learning that the Indian is a real person, and caring for him is a serious responsibility. It is told with gentle humor and suspense.
