Independence Day (DVD, 2000, Five Star Collection)

I bought the original version as well as going to the theatre to see this film. I was blowed away at the story line, the acting, special effects.
For any sci-fi fanatic, this is the film to see. It offers, second to none in special effects that will hold you from the beginning to end.
This movie is a tradition for me, I watch it every July 3rd and brings me back to what Independence day should be all about.

I WOULD HIGH RECOMMEND THIS INSPIRATIONAL MOVIE TO ANYONE, WHO APPRECAITE FREEDOM. I GOT TO ADMIT THE TALE OF THIS STORY WAS INCREDIBLE. IT GIVE ME A DEEP THOUGHT ON HOW AND WHAT WE DO IN LIFE CAN CHANGE IN AN INSTANT. LIFE HAS ITS FUN YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN DAY TO DAY. THERE ARE SO MANY TWIST AND TURNS. I AM GREATFUL WHAT I HAVE. WE ARE PUT ON EARTH FOR SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. WE GOT TO USE EVERY DAY, MINUTES AND SECONDS TO THE MAX.

Still a very good movie...I bought it to update from my VHS files. I did watch it again and still found it vastly entertaining

Only this time it's FOR REAL! I like how this movie shows the lighter side of earth being invaded by aliens and the great-American-spirit way of handling it.

Check it out...you wont regret it.

i LIKED ALL THE STARS IN THE MOVIE. THE PLOT WAS GREAT AND THE SPECIAL EFFECTS SECOND TO NONE!! I LIKE THAT THEY PUT BACK ALL THE PARTS THAT WERE CUT OUT IN THE FIRST RELEASING. BUT ALSO YOU HAVE THE CHOICE TO SEE THE THEATRICAL RELEASE AS IT WAS. I HAVE THE CHOICE AND I THINK THAT IS AWESOME!! JUST A GREAT STORY TURNED INTO A GREAT MOVIE.

I have seen this movie about four times already, and when I saw the low price on this site, I decided to buy it. It just as simple as that.

INDEPENDENCE DAY has no moment to spare. It starts out quickly with the sight of a gigantic alien spaceship hovering over the craters of the moon, heading towards the Earth. The film has the usual news on Earth, like all invasion flicks, having the news spread, starting from a small organization investigating extraterrestrial activity, then to the military, who then phone calls The White House, giving it full news to President Thomas Whitmore (Bill Pullman), who obviously remembers Michael Douglas' president performance in THE American PRESIDENT (but I didn't say lampoon), who stares in a moment of shock and disbelief.

Before the sight of the alien spaceship hovering above the cities around the world, we first get a glimpse of the many characters in the film. First, there's computer engineer David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum, in an excellent performance), playing chess with father Julius Levinson(Judd Hirsh) at Central Park. David is divorced from his wife (Margaret Colin), who happens to be the President's Chief-of-staff (see the connections). Then it switches to Kansas, where the focus is a small family. The father, Russell Casse (Randy Quaid), a crop-dust farmer, believes he's kidnapped by aliens and is willing for payback, much to the dismay of his teenage kids. We also get introduced to a soldier (Will Smith), who both longs to return to NASA and reach for the stars (literally), and to propose to his girlfriend Jasmine (Vivica A. Fox).

Well, enough of that. It's time we see an invasion, and, boy, did we get one. After the discovery of the invaders plot (using the Earth's satellites to plan an attack), we get a mind-blowing sequence after another at incredible pace. The destruction at the streets of New York are just the first great effects-laden sequences in the film. Lets see, we get a STAR WARS-inspired dogfight between fighter jets and alien spaceships. And we also get a suspenseful sequence of an alien in laboratory (Talk about a close encounter), INDEPENDENCE DAY doesn't fail when it comes to a good visual feast. Admittedly, some of the effects are cheesy, seeing how much CGI has improved over the years, but they still provide an eye-filling experience.

This is such a good movie. Action packed and scary to think it could possibly happen. We can't be the only ones in this vast Universe. I would watch this movie everytime it came on TV. Now I can watch it whenever I want and as a bonus it had Day After Tomorrow. Another movie that is excellent and this day and age with the worry of global warming, a believable movie also. Don't miss these movies, if you haven't already watched them!

This is a great classic 4th of july american movie. Give you a great sense of pride in the drive for human kind to survive against all odds and shows how when forced with adversity the human mind will innovate!

I bought the movie independence day and it was absolutely awesome. it is one of my favorite movies of all time and it did not disappoint.

Two disc set with an extensive liner notes. Packaging unit was set to look like an small book, with eye catching new cover. This is a wonderful DVD.

Get this one or the last Special Editon because they are the same Edition. Just make sure you don't get fooled by the Limited Edition, it's basically barebones with 2 cuts of the movie. This edition and the newer one has both cuts plus a ton of features, it's a 2 disc set.

Love the actors and the characters they play. Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum have a quirky chemistry that really works! Cheesy parts can be overlooked because of the over all humorous entertainment the movie gives.

Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum are excellent in this comedy thriller. I say comedy because of the antics between the 2 actors. One of the best movies ever made!

An awesome all around movie. I bought it so i can watch whenever i want. My suggestion is for you to buy this movie.

This was an excellent movie because of the special effects and the much much action that I never expected. This is a movie that you don't mind sharing with friends.
