Incredible Monsters (DVD, 2006, 3-Disc Set)

I'm a fan of truly awful 1940s/1960s scifi and horror (also a fan of GOOD ones like The Thing, 1940s Universal Monster sequels, Invasion of the Body Snatchers... but these are considered 'high end' vintage sci fi), but by no means an expert on the subject... I've bought and watched quite a few different DVD sets including bootlegs, the 50-pack and 100-pack horrors, etc. This one is actually quite 'good' with some movies not found in other compilation DVD sets. As with most sets, it of course has the 'watch once and erase from memory' "Beast of Yucca Flats" (it can't really be considered the worst movie ever made as the production values are too low to even consider it an actual movie... makes Plan Nine look like a George Pal production!) but also has Beast From Haunted Cave and Attack of the Giant Leeches (one of the gamiest 'junk' monster movies of the 1950s... track down and watch MST3000 of Giant Leeches). Also with 'The Demons' with snotty, spoiled but hottie Irish McCalla (a better than average token babe in distress)... nazis, bondage, cheesy go go dancing sexy models-turned-oatmeal-makeup monsters on a tropical island. Other various cheese wedges include Monster Maker, She Beast, Secret of the Loch, The Snow Creature, Track of the Moon Beast, and regrettably Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter. While not having any of the high-end low-ends (like The Giant Claw, Tarantula, or Man From Planet X... and GAWD forbid any of these cheapy sets ever have an early Hammer film), 11 'bad' movies here and at about a buck a piece 'retail' one can't go too wrong -- if you're looking to check off some empty holes on your 'bad monster movie' checklist this is a pretty good find. AND DVD quality is VERY nice... even if the source material leaves you wanting to light a match and open a window. WARNING: If you're not a 'fan' of bad horror and sci fi then don't get this set. These are NOT good movies and they are strictly enjoyable by fans of the genre or those you can appreciate truly lousy movies with bad special effects, bad acting, flubbed lines, jumpcuts, and soundtracks stolen from other bad movies.
