In...The Life of Chris Gaines by Garth Brooks (CD, Oct-1999, Capitol/EMI Records)

This is an awesome album with music you would never expect from Garth Brooks. He is so tender in the song Heaven Knows. I like this song best out of all the song on this album.

I love Garth Brooks the country artist but this is UNF***ING BELEIVABLE!!! I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My music tastes cover everything from AC/DC to Mozart, no favorites really...this is outstanding!!!

Why did I buy it?? I remembered when it came out, I saw the televised "concert" and was stunned that it was the same Garth(incredible transformation), what's not to love??

I bought this cd to replace one I had before that I lost. I absolutely love the songs on it. If you're a Garth Brooks fan, this gives you a different perspective on him as an artist.

I've always liked Garth Brooks- he turned me (and I'm sure thousands more) on to Country music. I agree with other reviewers- his hat shows through the greasy-haired punk exterior, as long as you know who you're listening to from the start. I LOVE the Right Now song- it's gritty and soft at the same time. The Unsigned Letter is my favorite- the words are fascinating- what if this happened to me? Would I go? Would I hide? Garth's voice is wonderful to listen to, as always. The only real problem I have with the album is that the movie was never made- I think it was supposed to happen, but never did.
Should you buy this album? If you like Garth, Yes. It has a folk feel to it, rather than a punk feel, so I guess if you like Peter Paul and Mary, this CD will make you happy. I have 7 of the songs ripped to my computer, most CD's only get 2 or 3. Hope this helps! Diana

I really don't understand why this was not a more popular CD. Brooks has an amazing voice and when combined with more than adequate guitar and keyboard, it just sgtrikes a chord with me. Wish he would make more music that is not country. I don't get tired of this CD. It's great for chillin' on a weekend or playing at a party, soft or really loud. It would be fun if this was available in DVD-A or SACD.

Great Cd enjoy all of the songs. Bought the Cd to replace the one I lost back in 1999 when I only had one with a few songs. Enjoy the full album more then expected. This CD did not get the best reviews in the music world, but my kids and myself love all of the tracks !

If you can open your mind and for a moment imagine Chris Gaines (a fictional character) and not Garth, then you will be pulled in to this CD with pleasure. Garth Brooks did not get any recognition for this CD which contains music that has been used in many movies...such as Kevin Costner's "for love of the game" where in the final scene Chris Gaines beautiful voice serenades the hit "It Don't Matter To the Sun", a very beautifully written song that only Garth could pull off. Just because Brooks was highly criticized for not singing like a Country Star, should not take away from his profound talent and give him credit that he is awesome on this CD. If you ever do yourself a favor it would be to buy this CD and open your mind because the words and the music on this CD are awesome. Go Chris Gaines...and Garth you were robbed of being given due credit for this awesome piece of work!! Great for the vehicle...you can get lost in this music!!

I was searching for a copy of this CD. Which was released quite a few years ago. I was thrilled to find it on EBAY. The seller promptly mailed my purchase. The CD was in excellent condition,as stated, and sounded even better than I remembered. If you are a Garth Brooks fan it is definitely worth a listen!

I love Garth Brooks. I have all his CD's, and I wouldn't have known it was him.
The music is good all on it's own and I wish the press didn't the truth about the artist beforehand. I think people were worked up not to take it seriously.

I wish "Chris" would do another!

A very good CD which introduces Garth Brooks singing as Chris Gaines and highlights another facet of this man's talent. Good song selection.

I bought this CD when it originally came out but somehow it got lost. I was so glad to find it again on Ebay. I know a lot of people have given it a bad review because they didn't think Garth Brooks should sing anything other then Country. The thing is, he shows that he is such a talented singer that he can sing more than just Country. I think he does a fine job and the musicians behind him are fantastic. If you listen to the CD for what it is and not pan it because you think Garth should only sing Country, you will realize that this is great entertainment. It is a compilation of refreshing songs that still sound great over 10 years later. Give it a listen, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I ordered this c.d. because I got it after hearing one of the songs and loving it. I had the cassette. I was looking forward to the movie they were going to make on Chris Gaines aka Garth Brooks, but I guess everyone else hated the cd! Garth Brooks was on Saturday Nite Live making fun of it. Anyway, my hubby and I loved each and every one of the songs. By the way, DO NOT like country. Since not many people liked it, I gave up on looking for it and on a whim found it at Ebay!!!

Love anything that says Garth Brooks. Gave his alter ego a chance and it doesn't matter what he called himself. I have one of the holographic copies and bought my son-in-law of the other style. If you love Garth, give this a listen. You'll find Mr. Brooks conquers all genre.

To bad some people didn't have the imagination to understand what Garth Brooks was trying to do in the music biz.

I used to have this cd, my daughter stole it from me. :) She likes it too! My favorite song is Main Street. There are a couple I like less, but the rest of it so good.

I love Garth Brooks. I have everything he ever recorded or put on video. He has a beautiful voice and I sure wish he would go back on tour...maybe as Chris Gaines???

I was extremely disappointed to C what Garth was trying to do, and to not have succeeded. I so wanted him to, I watch only part of the making of Chris Gains due to coming across the program too late. I only got to C a little bit of it, but what I was I was in a trance. I've wanted so badly to C this program from the very beginning, I, to, this day, check all around the stations hoping to find it again. I've checked out Garths' website in hopes he has it for sale on a DVD no such luck. If anyone knows where I can C or buy this program please let me know my handle is gadgetfreak718. I purchased this CD about 3 weeks back and I can't stop listening to it. When I'm in the car, I do not turn on the radio anymore, because nothing is better then Chris. I should be able to sing all the songs soon, I hope I do not wear out the CD b4 I learn all the songs lyrics. There's not too much I can say about it, but, I LOVE IT, & I HAVE TO GET MY DAILY DOSE OF CHRIS. Garth is great I wish he hadn't retired @ such a young age, I know his priorities are his kids, but darn it, his fans need a little loving too LOL. There is only 2 singers, in, and not of this world that I really love, the charisma of Elvis Presley and Garth Brooks. Oh I'm sorry 3 singers I love Neil Sedaka also, he his in the same category, all 3 men are geniuses in my opinion. We all know what happened to Elvis, I still love him and he is still 1st in my book, but Garth Brooks is not that far behind Elvis. There's still hope for Garth he's still with us here on earth. Neil Sedaka I guess he is retired to, kind of, he plays Vegas but I never get to go when he is there, I've been trying but so far I haven't succeeded. With the enthusiasm that Garth puts into his concerts, you can't help but feel excellent. Chris Gains softer side is unbelievable goes to show you what a Genius Garth is.

I am not a country music fan, but Garth Brooks has the most amazing, clear voice ever!! This is the type of music he should always sing. Great CD!

This arrived quickly and plays perfectly. There were no major scratches and it had the hologram as advertised.

I had to buy this CD because my old one was worn out and scratched. This is some of Garth's greatest vocals and melodies. Every track is great.

I liked this album, ever since the first time that I heard it. It's a different direction than what I'm used to from Garth Brooks. It has some interesting subtexts and a solid sound, while being a departure from the traditional Country sound.

This is not Garth Brooks best effort. He is best when he being himself not trying to be a made up pop star. There are a few good songs on this CD, It Don't Matter to the Sun is the best though.

It was very different to listen to this cd "hearing" Garth's voice. But it was pretty good non the less. To bad it did not catch on. My husband wanted to get this CD for himself so that he could practice a song for Karaoke. I'm please with it.
