Although this is the probably the first "commercial" adventure for the group 10,000 maniacs, In My Tribe draws from a range of emotional and controversial subjects; "What's The Matter Here?"(child abuse), "Like The Weather"(depression), "Cherry Tree" (illiteracy), "Don't Talk" (alcholism/abuse), and "Gun Shy" (Against War). Natalie Merchant's haunting voice delivers each song with clear understanding and the melodic notes from the band support her 100%. If you can get the original version of this CD you will also get the song "Peace Train" which was omitted in later pressings. This CD is one of the top 10 in my music collection and should be a part of yours. If you like Natalie Merchant's voice, I strongly recommend any 10,000 Maniac CD with her as lead vocalist and also her solo projects.
Great CD, It's a rare one where every track is good. There are few CDs or albums out there that you listen to and the entire collection is music you love and will listen to over and over.
Love this CD, had been looking for it for a while. Many of the CD's for sale did not include the Peacetrain track that 10,000 covered but this CD did have that song so I am thrilled with it!!
