If you are looking for a basic introduction into beading, this is a great book to start with. When I sold vintage bead necklaces, I wanted my customers to be able to wear them immediately with coordinating earrings. I would try my best to match up the item with earrings from inventory but soon ran into a couple that I could not match. So the next thing I could think of was to make a pair myself. I loved playing with colors and different styles and decided I wanted to try my hand at creating.

I wasn't sure what items I would need. I starting looking at ebay for jewelry making supplies. When I noticed items for beading...bead trays, head pins, and other supplies and not knowing quite what they were for, I decided to research the topic and came across this title at the local library. I enjoyed it so much, I decided to buy a copy.

I was looking for the basics. When you want to pursue a field of interest, you need the basics like common terminology with pictures, description of beads, and some simple starter techniques. The book has all that in a fun, information-filled format.

The book is not just for the beginner, but has designs for the novice to the more advanced. Each page is full of helpful hints and the reminder that patience is required. Techniques take practice, the more you do, the better you will become. It also hints that about having a flexible attitude since you may want to redo your work...change beads, change style, change colors, trying to find just the right look for your project. It is a creative process and is not meant to be rushed.

Good for beginning to intermediate beaders and jewelry makers. Not sure I would have paid full retail, though. There are so many beading and jewelry books and magazines out there that you really have to look through them and determine if they are right for you. However, the great prices on ebay make it easy to just buy and review later.

Why this book is so helpful & easy to follow.

This is a great book, especially for beginners. It gives you answers, guides you through the steps, tells you what materials you need & what for. It also has several jewelry designs to follow. I just started making jewelry last year. I learned a lot from searching the internet & ebay, but I needed something that had all of the basics in writing, near me, to pick up and read anytime. I was very impressed by this book, as I have seen others not nearly as good or easy to understand & follow. You will bot be disappointed. RJ

Here was a book just for me! I just starting out to bead and Voila! what did I run across other than a book entitled "The Impatient Beader. Margot Potter did an excellent job in explaining just exactly how things are performed. I have now completed 3 of the projects in the book...because I was too impatient to put it down. One of the main reasons it also caught my eye was the fact that this was a "no shipping charges" item and I always stop and scan those items. The only thing about the book that brought it down my enthusiam with the book, was the fact that the writer assumed I would have all the proper equipment that was needed to make certain items. Other than that, I would highly recommend this book for a beginning beader!

  Cool ideas
Review created: 11/28/09

I saw this book in a crafts store and really liked it at first glance. It gives some nice ideas and a little detail on how to do things. Now that I've bought the book though, I think it could give more specific instructions and pictures showing how to do things. I also bought the 2nd book "The Impatient Beader Gets Inspired" and I was very disappointed in that. If you're thinking about this book or that one, I'd definitely pick this one over that.

Fantastic Book for the Impatient Beginner!!
Review created: 08/29/09

I'd seen this book in a craft store & really wanted to buy it but didn't want to spend as much on something I might not be good at doing. I'm fairly new to the endeavor of jewelry-making & wanted to get something that would make it easy for me to complete projects. I am not the most patient person & it does allow completion of projects in a reasonable amount of time.
This book is very versatile with the amount & types of projects you can make. It does have several things that I wouldn't necessarily make because they're not to my taste but the designs are able to be used for other sorts of ideas. It does give a fairly in-depth tutorial on the very basic jewelry-making/beading procedures & tools. It answers a lot of questions one might ask a more seasoned jewelry-maker without perhaps the quizzical looks received by said jewelry-maker due to the basic level of the question. Overall, I would recommend any of the Impatient Beader books to anyone looking to begin jewelry-making or gain inspiration for new ideas. Angelcry417
