Adolescent R&B singer Corey wants to walk you home from school, but only "if that's cool with you." And that's precisely the key to both his approach and his appeal. Whereas some artists in his age range try to come on like pint-size mack daddies, Corey is about as sexually intimidating as Bobby Sherman, and if you don't get the reference then you're young enough to be a part of his world. There are occasional interjections of hip-hop production values on I'M JUST COREY, such as the rap interludes on "Hush Lil' Lady" and "MVP" (courtesy of Lil' Romeo and Shaquille O'Neal respectively), but for the most part this is a pop/R&B hybrid aimed straight for the mainstream. The big, friendly smile Corey sports on the album cover finds it's sonic equivalent in his sunny vocal style, and it's almost impossible to dislike this cheery little rascal. In a knowing nod to the past, former child star Michael Jackson even guests on the bonus track "All I Do," making the circle of history complete.
Editorial Reviews 3 discs out of 5 - ...Both humble and personal, Corey's debut showcases his sweet soprano as he tells engaging PG-13 tales in a cutesy musical style that recalls Miami's equally charming Sammie... Vibe (03/01/2002)
