Recorded at the Grove Park Inn, Ashville, North Carolina. This is part of Spring House Music Group's Gaither Gospel Series. Though Gospel stalwarts Bill and Gloria Gaither released I'LL MEET YOU ON THE MOUNTAIN more than 30 years into their career, the album shows that neither their music nor its attendant message have lost any of their inspirational power. The album, which was recorded in front of a whooping, hand-clapping live audience, opens with the punchy country-flavored title track and roars forward from there. The tracks here cover a range of styles, from countrified gospel, to traditional gospel, to slower, more sweeping arrangements that highlight individual soloists. "How Big Is God" follows in the "Our God Is an Awesome God" vein and features the startlingly deep basso profundo of John Hall (there are moments in the song that recall the most earnest readings of "Ol' Man River"). Another standout track in this rich collection is "Just a Closer Walk With Thee," in which soloists Darrell Luster and Jim Murray are spurred on by exhortations from the galvanized audience. I'LL MEET YOU ON THE MOUNTAIN is yet another fine set of music from one of Gospel's most famous couples.
