Synopsis
This graphic novel collects all seven issues of the extremely controversial, bestselling comic book miniseries Identity Crisis. While many hailed this series by thriller writer Brad Meltzer, other fans were disturbed and outraged by this hard look at the more dangerous implications of being related to a superhero, and the tricky moral choices those superheroes might have to make in order to protect their loved ones. Ralph Dibny, Elongated Man, doesn't hide behind a secret identity. He pays the price for that when someone slips inside his elaborate security system and brutally murders his beloved wife, Sue. A group of Ralph's superhero friends and colleagues--Green Arrow, Black Canary, the Atom, Zatanna, and Hawkman--believe the key to Sue's death lies in an earlier crime, and their secret and ethically dubious response to it. But how many others will have to die before they unravel the mystery?

Publisher's Note
The most talked-about and successful miniseries of 2004--the story that has created ripple effects throughout the DC Universe for many years to come--is now available in a stunning hardcover volume! New York Times bestselling author Brad Meltzer (GREEN ARROW) teams with artists Rags Morales & Michael Bair (WONDER WOMAN) and cover artist Michael Turner (SUPERMAN/BATMAN) to deliver an all-to-human look into the lives of super-heroes, and the terrible price they pay for doing good. When the spouse of a JLA member is brutally murdered, the entire super-hero community searches for the killer, fearing their own loved ones may be the next targets! But before the mystery is fully solved, a number of long-buried secrets rise to the surface, threatening to tear apart and divide the heroes before they can bring the mysterious killer to justice. Bonus features for this special hardcover edition include extended commentary by Meltzer and Morales, the rest of the creative team talking about their favorite moments, a look at Morales's sketchbook and more!

      Not Bad ! A Good Read !

I normally do not like 'grim and gritty' comic books that have become the norm since the 1980's !

However I checked out the trade paperback hardcover book of 'Identity Crisis' from DC Comics, created by Brad Meltzer, Rags Morales and Michael Bair at my local library this past week.

I still do not like my comics 'grim and gritty', but this package of compiling all the seven issues of the mini-series of the comic book together actually made a good 'read' for me at a couple of sittings.

It is not something I would give to my youngest child, even tho it has Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and other superheroes that the mainstream public think should be an all ages read. The 'School Library Journal' suggests that this book is for Grade 10 and up readership, which I would agree is the proper age group due to the content and violence.

This mini-series was both wildly acclaimed and also wildly reviled when it was first published post 9-11. It tampered with the DC Universe continuity, but also brought 2nd and 3rd tiered superheroes into the limelight which they had not seen before.

Because I am not an active monthly reader of most DC comics, I found this compiliation of the seven issues a 'good read' but found some of the background of the story objectionable including the use of 'mind-wiping'.

    Michael
