Album Notes
Recording information: Magpie Cage, Baltimore, MD.
The Baltimore based quartet Ponytail trade in gleefully frenetic, guitar-heavy art-pop that conjures the warped experimentations and fierce rhythmic drive of Krautrock originators like Neu! and Amon Duül, while drawing from the irreverent eclecticism and damaged pop of contemporary American acts like Deerhoof and Hella. Ponytail's sophomore release, ICE CREAM SPIRITUAL! is a wondrous blend of surprising pop hooks (the disco-inflected opening of "Sky Drool" is borrowed from an old Stevie Nicks tune), noise-wracked sound collages, and bracing guitar work all held together by the unearthly wails and ecstatic yelps of vocalist Molly Siegel.

Editorial Reviews
3.5 stars out of 5 -- [T]he disc is precocious but never precious, combining a smart, JUNO-esque appreciation of old-school punk that steers clear of mere revivalism.
Spin

4 stars out of 5 -- [T]hey go for punk rock at the most physical level, until their rhythms feel almost like a rave, as in the seven-minute 'Celebrate the Body Electric'...
