Ice Age 2 Is no Meltdown
Review created: 12/04/06

Another fun time at the animation, summer-going experience this time facing the antics of a crazed squirrel, mammoths (one who has a problem with identity), possums, and other assorted creatures. The animation is great, the action tantalizing, the storyline straight forward along with humorous lines. While not breaking much ground, this movie stands on its own for its entertainment value. The squirrel personally was too much over the top and in some ways a distraction. The use of musical interludes was quite interesting and different from other animated features that either focus on music or leave it out. The blended use of the music in this animated feature was smooth and discrete. Seven out of Ten Stars.

It's Better The Second Time Around,
Review created: 10/27/06
8 of 13 people found this review helpful.

This was HILLARIOUS!!! This was far better than the first movie. John Leguizamo was brilliant as usual, the perfect voice for Sid. And it was great having the voice of Queen Latifah as Ray Ramano's love interest. This movie was a comedy-lovers delight. And of course the squirrel, Scrat, was genius from day one. Every scene he's in is like watching a great silent movie. That actually requires a lot of skill on behalf of the storytellers and animators to create scenes without dialogue that are equally as entertaining and engaging as those with dialogue. The latter is one reason why the first "Ice Age" film distinguished itself. So the team at Blue Sky Studios should be congratulated. This is a sharp movie. No sophomore slump. I have the first one on DVD and I can't wait to get this incredible sequel. Everything just seems more developed and elaborated upon this time around. Computer-animated films were still in their infancy when the first film got released. But the technological progress that has been made since then is obvious and it's been put to good use throughout the movie. I really enjoyed "Ice Age 2." So if you were a fan of the first one, then don't forget to get the sequel when it hits stores this November.

Ice Age the Meltdown is another cute story of the Ice Age animals and there adventures. In this cute tale, they think the mammoths are extinct and the valley is going to flood. All the way out of the valley they meet a female mammoth, or is she? The three amigos travel along with their 'possom' friends trying to escape the flood. Great story! Well written!

Highly Recommend!

  Great Animated Sequel
Review created: 10/10/06

This is a well animated sequel to the movie Ice Age. The movie features the same characters that formed their mixed species family unit in the first movie, Manny the mammoth, Sid the sloth, and Diego the saber-tooth tiger. In the movie they are in a rush to get out of the valley before it is flooded when the glacier melts and breaks away. The movie features new characters that become added to this unique family unit including a female mammoth who must be convinced she is actually a mammoth.

Ice Age The Meltdown Posted by CK-Auctions

The original Ice Age was a surprise hit for me. I was sure that it would be another dud animated movie. For a while it seemed that if your name wasn't Pixar that it was impossible to make a good animated feature. Even Disney, the company that invented the animated feature, had a string of flops with Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Treasure Planet, and Brother Bear all being less than spectacular. (Okay, I'm not listing Lilo and Stitch which was excellent.) So I didn't have my hopes up when I first saw Ice Age and I was pleasantly surprised. The movie had a good, solid story and a lot of laughs. It was the type of family friendly movie that both kids and adults can enjoy, something that's all too rare nowadays. Four years later, Fox went back to the characters and made a sequel: Ice Age the Meltdown. While this second film isn't quite as good as the original (how many sequels are?) it still has a good amount of charm and looks wonderful on this Blu-ray disc.

This was a funny film that both my children and I enjoyed, but it wasn't without its flaws. On the good side, there film was consistently funny, with jokes and gags coming at regular intervals so the movie never become boring or slow. The characters have the same personalities that they had the first time around too; Manny is the loner, Sid is annoying, and Diego is the tough silent predator. The new characters are cute too. The possum twins, sort of pre-historical versions of Bart Simpson, are the comic reliefs who steal the show.

On the down side, this time around the plot is much simpler and a bit too thin. A lot of the movie feels like filler; funny filler but padding none the less. Scrat, the squirrel who is always trying to get an acorn, is given much more screen time in this film and while his exploits are generally humorous none of his adventures advance the plot at all. There were several other scenes, the mini-sloths that started worshiping Sid and the singing vultures to name only two, which have nothing to do with the rest of the movie. I think the main problem is the lack of a meaty. The first movie had the animals trying to return the human child to his tribe, the danger of the saber-tooth tigers waiting to ambush them, and the three main characters learning to depend on each other. This film only has the danger of the advancing water. Manny's search for another mammoth is solved early on, and the water predators aren't really a threat for most of the movie. If they could have created another subplot or two this movie would have been much stronger. As it is, the Meltdown is a good family movie that doesn't quite live up to the standard that was set by its predecessor.

  Scrat Does It Again!

This movie wasn't as good as the first one. It lacked something in the storyline, it wasn't as strong as the first movie. Scrat (the squirrel) really made this movie though. He was a lot funnier than in the first one, it helps that they show him more.

The story starts out with Sid, Manny, and Diego. They soon find out that their ice world is melting and if they don't move to higher ground they'll soon be under water as well. On their new migration Manny finds another mammoth who thinks she is a possum. He then spends his time trying to convince her that she's a mammoth, of course they both think the other is crazy. I won't spoil the ending for those who haven't seen it, but you will definitely enjoy this movie if you liked the first one.

If you saw and enjoyed Ice Age, you will love this continuation of the further adventures of the Ice Age trio. The characters are more fully developed and as such, allows the viewer to simply enjoy the antics that they get into and the other members that they encounter during this adventure.

I bought this dvd for my son to complete the story. It is a fun family movie and I loved the charactors that played the parts. They did a job well done. We had fun watching it and I recommend it to anyone who has kids or even for the adults in the family, it was so good. It's always nice to find a movie that the whole family cn enjoy and this was one of them.

I was a bit disappointed, a bit slow and did not keep my attention as the 1st movie did. Would like to see another one come out as they are very fun and wonderful graphic and amimation, just need a bit better story line. Something to really keep your attention, as like putting them on differant adventures as the 1st movie did.

  Good movie

Scrat the squirrel really made the movie, his karate attack was very comical. Being a movie critic i found the storyline to be good but not great. Characters in the movie were great, sid has the perfect voice and the two opposum brothers were prefect with their voices too. I found Ray Romano to be a less than spectacular person for manny, he was okay. Frankly it was the events that stopped this movie from getting rated a 5 from me, how they get stuck on this rock and they try to balance themselves was just boring. The directors just couldnt keep the flow going, there are some very humorous and comical parts but that couldnt make up for the less interesting parts to truly make this a hit. Definitly worth buying and owning, kid movie or adult movie.

This movie was fantastic, except that there were a couple of occasions where the language was questionable for small children. There were two occasions when very small curse words were used. Still, this is supposedly a children's movie.

Not as good as Ice age 1-2002
Review created: 09/18/09

This Sequel is not as good as Ice age 1-2002. The only fun part again the squirrel, he is the only fun part for kids which is small.

The Animation is again no doubt, very good. Our kid refused to sit and watch as a bit scary as crocodiles, big fish made it scary for kids.

Overall, we enjoyed Ice age 1 but not ice age 2: The meltdown.

Let's see how will be the latest one: Ice age 3. We will surely watch this new sequel too but DVD is not out yet so still waiting.
