I Am Legend (DVD, 2008, 2-Disc Special Edition)

I Am Legend is a great movie. Little odd I should say but will have you sitting tens in the sofa in almost 2 hour. Should I tell to much abaote the movie, Is the surprise moments totally destroyed. So I don´t, only will recommended this a great and little different from the other in this type of style!

This movie will completely catch you off guard. It is incredible how well Will Smith can play this part as the sole actor on-screen. Smith plays his part perfectly in this movie. This is definitely one of my favorite movies. Excellent Sci-Fi!

The buying experience with e-bay was great. The product was as described. The seller took 30 days to get it to me which was way out of character for any other seller on e-bay that I have used.

this movies is very good in the alternate theatrical version with controversial ending watch this one first.

Will Smith is one of my favorite actors.Anything he is in, I will watch....The movie shows you how easily MAN can destroy MAN with just ONE person that does not follow the RULES and thinks themselves GOD. I know it is fiction, but, we as humans think ourselves indestructable......Big mistake..........It will make you cry as well as laugh. A good flick and an important message.............

I am not sure why Will Smith too this role. He is an excellent actor, this script and story line were way below his ability. I thoiugh the story line was weak, the flashback scenes were sappy and unconvincing. I am unsure why the named the alternate ending "Controversial". except to entice people to buy it. Overall, I would take a pass on this movie.

JUST WATCHED THE FILM... not sure if I'll sleep tonight... I'm in the television/film business and I've never seen anything to compare this with... Also from Manhattan.. I've walked, spent time on every street in the movie.. how did they do this? I'll have to watch all the film info... I'm truly blown away.... I'm also a 9-11 vol. fireman who experienced "all" of 9-11... I was in the street under WTC Tower 2 when it blew up and collapsed in my face.... that was frightening... I was pulled out of the debris... but this film !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will Smith is absolutely fantastic .... the film is "OUT OF THIS WORLD" ! BE PREPARED !!

Once again Will Smith brings his superstar talent in this orignal thriller. The suspense and comic action is all there to make even the least interested person engaged in the film. A definete must have for this years movie lineup. Don't hesitate to pick up a copy.

Very good plot idea, combined with Will Smith in a Castaway esque film could have been very epic. It had a very well executed intro and middle, but the end was lacking. The double DVD offers a good alternate ending and if you were a fan of the rest of the movie then you owe it to yourself to see the alternating one. It doesn't really complete it, but it does help make it feel a little more satisfying.
The animated comics also offered on the DVD are pretty interesting and have that insane feel similar to the cutscenes in the video game series Twisted Metal.

If you love the genre of what I would like to call the "what if" movies then this is the movie for you. Once again Will Smith does a superb job as always. I highly recommend getting the Special Edition with the Theatrical version because for me seeing it in the theaters and seeing the special edition DVD it is very much different in the end and in some parts through out the DVD. In this version I like the ending the best because it ends the way it should have all a long. Buy this one and you will not be disappointed. That is what I gave it and excellent score.

To the modern eye, the Plot for the 1954 Richard Matheson novel "I Am Legend" might sound something like "Cast Away" with Zombies. Truth be told, that's not a terrible premise, and 'Constantine' Director Francis Lawrence runs with that. Where he takes it works hard, and you are ensured to enjoy this ride.
Will Smith plays Robert Neville, a Virologist investigating a genetically engineered cure for Cancer that has gone very, very wrong. With most of the World's Population wiped out and a small remnant turned into ravenous, infected carriers, Neville ekes out a lonely existence with only a dog for company in the remains of New York City. He hunts, forages, and explores by day and shuts himself in at night. The infected, as it turns out, are vulnerable to ultraviolet light.
Through flashbacks, we see how Neville came to be in this predicament, and how he dedicated himself to finding a cure. Part of that involves capturing infected humans for testing. In doing so, he incurs the wrath of one of the local CHUDs and Neville soon finds out that these creatures are not as mindless as they look.
At first, the film wrings a nightmarish plethora of scares out of Neville's encounters and does an amazingly great job of revealing the monsters bit by bit, until finally unleashing them in their CGI hardcore. By the time they're in full-on assault mode, they are resembling Zombified/Vampirish CHUD's., right down to their wall-scaling and coordinated visceral attacks. This makes for incredibly exciting action sequences., without ever dialing down the horror quotient.
Smith, for his part, does a superb job of communicating the pathos and desperation of the last man on Earth. His slow disintegration into Madness is subtly evoked, and in one particularly emotional scene, he handles one of the most tired clichés of the Zombie Genre with genuine depth.
The script gives him plenty of help. Screenwriters Mark Protosevich and Akiva Goldsman show plenty of restraint, teasing out the details of the Virus and its Outbreak over the course of the film while elegantly laying out how Neville interacts with this Post-Apocalyptic World in episodic vignettes.
Ultimately, the film seems to be on the verge of asking intriguing questions about faith and humanity. While doing so, "I Am Legend" maintains the power to awe. The Production Design by David Lazan and Naomi Shohan is nothing short of amazing, rendering a Big Apple reclaimed by nature with stark realism.
This film is simple breathtaking....and absolutely cannot fail you !!

THE GOOD
Ok, didn’t think I’d end up saying this… but Will Smith is pretty damn good in this movie. When you think about it, it’s not easy to carry a movie when you’re the only character most of the time. You’re interacting with yourself and a dog…. and that’s it. In that way I am Legend had a sort of “Castaway” feel to it, and while Smith doesn’t quite pull off a Hanks lone performance, he does do it quite well. We see him trying his best to lead something that looks like a normal existence, slowly loosing his sanity a little (there’s a great little scene where he’s trying to think of a way to pick up a mannequin) and yet save the world all at the same time. Lesser actors couldn’t have pulled that off, and Smith did, so kudos to him.

Many people around the websphere are maligning the visual effects in the film… and I’d like to know what they’re comapring it to, because I’ll tell you right now, they did as good of a job as I’ve ever seen making human beings in full lead 3D animation interacting with a real environments.

I love it when a movie can give you that “Oh crap… this guy is totally screwed” feeling, and I Am Legend did that on a couple of solid occasions. Not only screwed because of his general predicament (being the only human left alive with all those infected out there wanting to rip his delicious neck meat out) but also some pretty suspenseful action sequences that had you on the edge of your seat a little.

Oh, and this is a minor thing… but near the beginning of the movie as Will Smith is walking around the now empty downtown New York, there is a giant billboard in Time Square advertising a Batman VS. Superman movie.

THE BAD
This one killed me. Will Smith is keeping careful detailed notes and memos as any good scientist would do. He even makes this video entry into this computer about how he noticed one of the infected guys stuck his head into the light for a second, which was unnatural behavior for them. However, in another scene, one of the infected (minor spoiler) sets an elaborate booby-trap for Smith to fall into.

As good of a job that Smith did in keeping my attention even though it’s usually just him on the screen, the fact of the matter is I had a very hard time buying Will Smith as the world’s leading military geneticist who the US government (when it was still around) is relying on to save the world (he’s even on the cover of Time Magazine). And it’s not because I can’t by SMITH per se… but I couldn’t buy it when held up to all the other characteristics of the character he plays. Warrior, bodybuilder (crap… he’s in better shape in this movie than he was in Ali) Once the infected people are revealed, the film lost a bit of it’s soul. I was really enjoying the simple survival story of Smith, working to save the world, and yes, the THREAT of the infected… but once the infected come out full force, it felt like the movie dumbed down a little.

OVERALL

I didn’t have much hope for I Am Legend, but I’ve got to say I enjoyed it. Certainly not as good as it could have been, but a decent time at the movies nonetheless. Smith is solid, the premise is good than they move around in this eerily empty world very well. Not half bad action and suspence although it could have been a bit shorter since the film starts to slowly loose your attention after the first hour. Still… not a bad film.

A MUST SEE MOVIE (RENT ME FIRST)

I am legend, even though it's technically a remake, is one of the best movies I've ever watched. It is my belief that everyone, 18+, should see this movie. It really digs deep into the human mind. It shows also shows the basic survival instinct. The movie has an underlying lesson to be learned from the ill effects of supposed cures. The movie displays the world in a reality that may not be as far off as many would say.

The alternate ending (~ 7 min) on the 2 disc SE set is how the regular movie should have ended!

I must say that this DVD was delivered very quickly and the movie was the deluxe, collectors edition.

The thing i like most about it is the seller is fast. and i got my CD in two or three days.and this is really good and fast.The cd is good without any doubts.

Again, Will Smith carries this movie in more ways than just being the central actor. He sets the tone for the viewer and brings you along with him through his travails and challanges. I liked the original ending where the main character sacrafices himself to ultimately accomplish what he had been dedicating his life to...finding a cure for the pandemic disease. The movie does leave out a lot of the content that makes the store a walk of faith as set forth in the book, but it at least left enough of faith in it to keep the heart of the message of the story.

This is my favorite of the movie versions of I am Legend. I am a fan of the LMOE (Last Man On Earth) stories anyway.

Will Smith does an excellent job in the film and I believe him and his pain. The special effects are pretty decent but the "monsters" are obviously CG, but not terrible.

I bought this particular release because it contains the "Alternate Ending" which is far better than the theatrical ending. It just makes more sense than what was released officially.

Outstanding movie.This movie makes you realize what our testing of diseases could really do.Will Smith as usual great actor..

This movie was complex, but put together very well. The audience gets to experience Dr. Robert Neville's personal journey into insanity while he tenaciously works to find a cure for a virus that has made man extinct. I began questioning myself on what I would do or how I would act in similar circumstances. It would plainly suck!! The infected are scary as hell.

Ilove all Will Smith movies, I am Legend, the best and this package have the untold story, better than the episode they show on theathers.

This was an OK movie. Will Smith is much better of an actor than he showed in this movie. While it had a 'fantasy' theme he did not do anything one might do in his position.......such as get a new change of clothes each day from the most expensive stores in New York. He was all work and no play.

You have to see the double disc version. The second ending is incredible, less dynamic, but it explains a lot more.
