the hunt for red october is clearly based on a real life incident occurred durring the days of the cold war, where a nuclear submarine suffered a radiation leak that nearly killed it's crew. accounts of these events can now be apreciated in the motion picture "k-19: the widowmaker". but still, this book can top any suspence book ever written(if i may dare say so). is the story of a russian submarine admiral, who(with the help of the nuclear submarine, the "red october")undertake a mission to take the submarine to the u.s.a.,as an excuse to hide his real intentions of defecting. the radiation leak was a scam to fool the sailors from noticing his defection. tom clancy did a possible(yet, farfetched)deduction of the happenings, concerning the k-19 incident, but blending it with a verry thrilling, witty storyarch. i couldn't put it down. it was so intence,i could've finished reading it the very day i started reading it. no wonder paramount wanted to make the movie addaptation,it's a top 10.
