The Hunt for Red October (DVD, 2003, Collector's Edition)

Definitely one of the best two or three submarine movies (Das Boot & K-19)
that have been made. The plot starts when a Soviet nuclear sub headed toward American waters drops off US scanners, the Americans scramble to take
defensive steps. But CIA analyst Jack Ryan (Alec Baldwin) convinces the brass that the subs commander (sean Connery ) has something other than a first strike in mind. A perilious cat and mouse game ensues in this taut
techno thriller that co stars Scott Glenn and Sam Neill. People that enjoy
military and war action flixs or action thrillers will love this one.

I'm a big fan of Sean Connery and this is a great example of his versatility as an actor. Outside he's the tough guy and deep inside he is a sincere and sensitive man with complex emotions and passions.

His character is first and foremost a devoted captain of a Soviet nuclear submarine. The plot reveals the complex man he is truly and how he wrestles with the Soviet way of life both in the military and home.

If you are looking for action and adventure with an emotional plot twist you will enjoy this movie. I am normally a big fan of the typical chick flick but this is a great movie for both men and women to enjoy together.

Easily in my top five favorite movies. This movie has it all. Several big name actors, qualitiy filmming, settings, and props. There is enough action in the movie to appeal the "Die Hard" fans without sacrificing an intelligent plot. Script was well written. I love it when dialogue is only long enough to follow the story but also allows you to read between the lines. That way you can enjoy analizing the characters moods and reactions to dialogue rather than them simply blurting out how they feel.
I rarely watch movies more than once but this movie is one exception.

The voiceover by the director John McTiernan is great content. He hadn't seen the movie in years clearly, but the detail is excellent. Everything from selecting the right glasses to how they created the boat in Long Beach harbor.

I liked the context of the dvd itself, but felt like I needed "Cliff Notes" for the movie. My husband is in the Navy and had to explain a lot of stuff to me as we were watching the movie. He enjoyed the movie immensely, but it was hard for me to stay focused when I did not understand what I was watching most of the time. I did like Sean Conroy in the movie though.

This is an excellent submarine movie, set during the cold war. Sean Connery plays a Russian submarine captain about to defect. Alec Baldwin is Jack Ryan from the series.

Great scenes underwater and an excellent movie overall.

i enjoy movies that have some historical significance. i also enjoy documentaries that explain or make us think about world events...how and/or why something happened, who all was involved and the reasons these things happened. some other favorites are 'thirteen days', 'jfk', 'apollo 13', 'a time to kill', to name a few. i also like sean connery, and i especially liked scott glenn's character as the sub skipper. this was a far cry from his'urban cowboy' role. 'hunt for red october' is an excellent movie.

The movie itself is very good. With intense actions, it keeps the audience attention all the way to the end. What I like most is the life experience I have learned in watching the submarine handle the problems of the Torpedoes by moving toward it and using the technique to cause the other submarine to be sunk by the Torpedoes. Major crisis in life can only be resolved by facing it bravly and unusual manuve (making a different turn of direction). The nature of the submarine also taught me to watch my back constantly in life. This is a great movie and worth watching over and over again.

one of Sean Connery,s best movie,s. he seem to just keep getting better over time. worth taking time to watch this great flim. makes a nice edition to any dvd collection.

I never received anything for the $9.70 I paid. There's nothing I can say about the item except I didn't receive it.

I need it for a secret Santa gift and it got here in time. It arrived in good condition and was in the orginal wrapping so it was new.

Great actors, great music, honest theme - this is a movie you can watch over and over and never get tired of it.

I really loved Alec Baldwin as Jack, he really filled the role well. I think much better than Harrison Ford, although I love him as an actor too. The action was great and I loved the scenes with Alec and Sean Connery.

I have loved this movie since it first came out at the movies. Sean Connery is one of my favorite actors and Alex Baldwin. This movie is a true classic. It has action, adventure and a suspense. The submarine chase was great.

This is my most absolutely favorite movie of all time. I have watched it a couple hundred times. It is not a movie for younger viewers as it is hard to understand some but excellent for adults. Be sure to pay attention to the beginning of the movie or you will lose the jist of it.

I orderd the DVD The Hunt for Red October and received a brand new DVD in just under a week. The plastic box and the DVD are in excellent condition.

I like this movie. When I was in the Navy I was in Sonar. This movie comes close to being classified but they changed it enough to unclassify the equipment.

Sean Connery portrays a good sub commander, but Alec Baldwins role probably would not exist in the real Navy.

Again being a movie, Hollywood tends to over dramatize parts but it is a good balance.

I gave it 4 stars.
