The Hunley (VHS, 1999)

As a huge Civil War buff, I loved Turners: Gettysburg & Gods and Generals. When I saw that he had made a movie about the Hunley, I felt that it would probably be a quality production(like the others) and was very satisifed after watching it. I think that it was a quality movie, the only knock I have is that it wasn't released on a region 1(US) dvd.

I had searched for this movie in several places, Ebay had the best price! I visited the Real Hunley in Charleston SC a few months ago , and was ambitious to learn more about the Civil war submarine... Very good movie I recommend it.

First its the CSS Hunley (Confederate States Ship). Like 'Ride with the Devil' this is very good story of true events during the civil war. This movie truely captures the sprirt and bravery of the men who manned this first succesful submarien.

THE HUNLEY tells the story of brave men who risked their lives for honor and paid the ultimate price. Operating the first real attack submarine, these heroes of the Confederacy demonstrated ultimate valour and died for a victory for their country in Charleston Harbor at a point when they knew that the war would ultimately be lost.

It is a movie about the civil war and the first Sub to sink a ship in war time in the world. What the people went through and the dedication. Most people believe the civil war was over slavery, but it was not at all, it was a problem with our Gov. just like we have today except it was North vs South on many items.

This is an excellent movie, not only for those who like action or Civil War buffs or reenactors, but also a very good movie for the public in general. Let's not forget women. The actors are excellent, the uniforms and special effects also excellent. I was part of the burial detail of this crew in Charleston SC a few years ago, this movie brought me back there again.

Fantastic Film, excellent acting great performances by Assanti and Sutherland, special effects were outstanding, the history of the first submarine warfare is absolutely moving !!!!!.

It was a great historical movie that trys to give an understanding of what it was like to be on board this Sub and it's importance in history. I bought it because I already knew of this sub and how the directors try to be accurate on it's story.

MY HUSBAND LOOKED EVERYWHERE FOR THIS MOVIE AND HE WAS THRILLED WHEN I FOUND IT.HE SAW IT ON TV AND WE RECORDED IT BUT OUR COPY IS VERY WELL WORN SO NOW HE CAN WATCH IT WITHOUT ALL THE FLAWS.
