HDVR2 is a TiVo and can be upgraded

First, its a TiVo so you know its the best DVR ever made. Second, TiVo went Open Source with their software, so you can get repackage versions of TiVo software from people like DVRupgrade.com who fix the 137GB file system limit which allows you to upgrade to large disk drives like 250GB and get 240 hours. We've had two HDVR2 units - both were upgraded to large disk drives and both worked wonderfully. There are a number of enthusiast websites that will give you great information about the HDVR2.
As for the over reviews, it is really too bad some people misrepresent products on eBay - but that should be an issue worked out between buyer and seller, not put into a review. If someone claims they are selling you a 240 hour DVR and it doesn't do 240 hours, just get a refund from the seller or report them to eBay/PayPal.
Likewise, with technical issues like dual tuners. we've never seen a tuner failure on an dual-tuner DirecTV TiVo (Series 1 or Series 2) but electronics does fail occasionally. However, the second tuner must be enabled in the system setup and a lot of people don't realize that when they are installing these units. In addition, the second tuner requires either a second cable to a dual-LNB antenna or a multiplexing scheme to allow the tuners to independently select satellite transponders.
DirecTV sold thousands of Series 1 and Series 2 TiVos and they would still be selling TiVos had Rupert Murdoch not insisted they use his own company's far inferior DVR (sold as the HR2x series) when he took control of DirecTV. Now that Rupert is gone, we'll have a DirecTV TiVo again sometime next year.
