Howlin' on the Air by Wolfman Jack (CD, Aug-1998, Big Ear Music)

Being a retired baby boomer I received this copy of Howling on the Air-with the Wolfman, put it on my CD Player, and (in my mind) was instantly transported back to those hot, lazy summer days of the sixties when we were all hot sh-t, 17, and driving around trying to impress girls in the red 64 Chevy convertable that we borrowed from my friends dad. The Wolfmans crazy antics over the air and even the old original commercial breaks all take you back to those "Thrilling Days of Yester-year" when things in life were sooo much simpler and pleasant. For those of us that cherish those memories, and modern day fans of movies like "Grease" and "American Grafitti" who were born later and missed out, I highly recommend listening to this CD, It'll take you home again if even for a little while. This recording took me back to my teens growing up in Southern California! Wolfman Jack was a legend in the early sixties and is still to this day. Wish there were more like this.

I liked this CD but wouldnt say I loved it. Its got some good old songs on there and Wolfman is funny. Takes you back in time for sure.

The Wolfman Jack CD has great old songs that take you back in time to a different era .... when there was still a sense of innocence and "the Wolfman" was the most "radical cat around"! This collection has great sound-bites mixed in with the superb music and if you just sit and listen to it .... you can almost smell the "cherry cokes" and fries being brought to your car by a car-hop on roller-skates at your favorite drive-in burger joint! Outstanding!

I have looked long and hard for a collection like this and this one did not disappoint! I recommend it for any music fan and/or fans of 'the Wolfman' and all that he represents in the coming of age of American youth. These were great times.

So .... sit in your favorite chair, put on the CD and let the Wolfman take you back in time ..... yeah!

I thought it wasn't enough.

I spend some very personal and high quality time listening to the Wolfman from XPRS in Baja California. This CD captures a little of that sound and that time.It is like a bittersweet drop of preserved happy teenager years for me. I felt like an interloper listening to the Wolfman in the middle of Oregon nights on skip. I envied the surfing, southern california kids, great cars, cruising boulevards, and the Wolfman on the radio during the sun of the day. This CD is only a small fragmental memory of that time I lived in, that time we all lived in. The movie American Graffiti came close to turning back the clock, but it was only a reflection in the rearview mirror. I was actually there. I only hope that someone can find more tapes from XPRS and produce more of these Wolfman tapes. The wolfman is truly an American treasure and I consider Bob to be a very close friend of mine. Just like hundreds of thousands of West Coast kids still do today. Even though those kids are a little older than average.

If you are into Wolfman Jack, and love jazz, blues, Motown & doo-wap music, this CD is for you. It's really funny and fun to listen to.

I've been driving around in my convertible with the top down and the Wolfman's voice booming over the speakers of my car stereo. People have asked..."Is Wolfman Jack back on?". No, but it does really bring back some great memories of growing up in the '60s, '70s & '80s, doesn't it?

The only regret that I have is, is that there is very few recordings available of the Wolfman from back in his XERF/XERB days. I would love to hear some more!

This is an excellent CD that brings back memories of the true essence of 1960's radio. As a two hour capture of a Wolfman Jack show that occured on a tuesday nigh in LA, it leaves you wanting to hear Wednesday nights, then thursday nights; and the Wolfman...what more need be said!

have a lot of oldies and do car shows thaught it would of been better i do not like it it is not realley good

WOW, This is a GRRRRRREAT cd. I loved listening to the WOLFMAN when I was in my teens, ( and actually even later when I could find him anywhere) sure Brings back many good memories of a much more peaceful world we have LONG left behind, I play this cd all the time especially when my wife and I are cruisin in my 55 chevy going to "cruise night" If you liked the wolfman You will LOVE this cd.and if you dont know who the WOLFMAN is...you owe it to yourself to hear him on this cd. Wolfman jack was in his prime long befor my time but I love to slip it in and fire up the old pontic lemans and just get lost. Would buy more if they make them. I can get it on xm but when I want it Good luck and would buy again. Grrr421
