  A great book for beginners

This book is very easy to navigate and is extremely informative. Chapter titles (i.e. Volkswagen Doesn't Stop: Brakes) set the mood for each section of the book, and lots of background information is given. Unfortunately, Muir is not God when it comes to Volkswagens and a lot of the information that he gives is just plain wrong. Take everything in this book with a grain of salt (ESPECIALLY when he's talking about switching from vacuum lines to mechanical. That's just stupid.) If you're a VW newbie, however, you can't get much better than this book.

This book is the standard when it comes to Volkswagen maintainence. It's been around forever, and still manages to be sold, both new and used, as well as reissued (it's now in its 19th edition). I would recommend it to anyone who is just starting out with the VW scene, or someone who'se been around VW's their whole life. It's simple, easy to understand, and covers just about everything the enthusiast will ever need to keep their VW alive.

I checked this book out of the library after I bought an old VW Thing. It is a great book for anyone interested in old VW's and their engines. I have learned a lot. I was thrilled to find a copy on eBay to have for my own. Now I can get it messy when I'm working on the engine, brakes or whatever! It is easy to follow and use. It's the best book on VW car repair I have found!

  Best VW Survival Guide

This is the best written and illustrated book dealing with repair and maintenance of air-cooled Volkswagens that I have seen. It has a touch of humor that helps one get through notty problems, and is written in clear and easy to understand language. It is very well laid out making any information needed easy to find and follow. The illustrations and photographs are very clear and concise, and the images with humor are just the right touch. This book takes the place of at least 4 others that I previously had and I will keep it in a handy place as long as I own a Beetle! Thanks, John and Tosh, well done!

How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive by John Muir

A Great book for the vintage VW lover. I got my first copy in 1973 and this new one is for my daughters boyfriend. Everything you need to know about the necessary tools required to do your own work on the car and how to do it step by step. If you have a son or daughter that is the proud owner of a vintage bug you should get them a copy of this book and help them learn to do their own tune-ups and valve adjustments. It's easy the way the chapters are written and the reading if fun and funny to boot. BUY IT and enjoy!
