House of Wax (DVD, 2005)

From the renowned Horror producers Joel Silver and Robert Zemeckis who brought you (House on Haunted Hill, Ghost Ship, Gothika), comes a new idea in film, or not. Even though House of Wax was a movie earlier done with Vincent Price, this movie easily dwarfs any other production of its kind. Directed by Jaume Collett-Serra literally poured his soul into this production. Thousands of man-hours were involved in make-up, masks, set design, special effects, and re-colorization as well as an entire town built especially for the set, the backdrop for this film was an enormous undertaking.

Back in 2005, I never really had time to go and see this movie in the theater and somehow, I never got to see this until Spring 2009. The concept of having psycho killers who entomb their victims in wax within a precepts of a wax museum is bizarre yet worked well in the earlier film. Vincent Price's film was quite good since he also in the film had a hideous face hidden by a wax made mask. Vincent was honored in this movie by the use of his name as you will soon notice when you watch or re-watch this movie.

Little does anyone know that these six college friends were going to stumble into such terror. Even with Paris Hilton in the film, it turned out really good. Most of the characters in this movie I really didn't relate to, but that should really matter much, except that it helps when you feel more apt to care about what happens to them.

We find that even though Elisha Cuthbert is 5'3" is too short for her acting counterparts, they put wooden blocks on her feet to bring her up to the 7'3" dude that goes into town with the local guy to get a fan belt.

The fire and melting scenes were totally awesome and why wouldn't it be since the entire house was supposedly made from wax. The gore and violence was a bit too much sometime for me to stomach, but I guess that's expected if you want a film to be totally creepy.

Siamese twins gone wrong in a Ghost Town? Wow, you wouldn't have ever guessed this in a thousand years. You would have guessed that all the people where set-up dead wax figures either. This dummy town would have been perfect for the army testing grounds for a nuclear detonation. Ha.

Critically speaking, I never really could figure out why they had taken the alternate beginning scene out of the movie. This one scene where a friends car breaks down and she winds up calling a wrecker and the wrecker man kills her.

Later in the film Elisha Cuthbert's character gets her forefinger snipped off by one of the twins. She didn't really scream much and she didn't really later act like she was in pain or panting hard or looking to anxious or afraid. So hopefully next movie they will take their cues on better believability.

Another things that I kept asking myself was how did the twins get power from the power grid? Anyway, I'd only make one more change. The roadkill guy should have been driving the ambulance.

Enough with the critics ripping House of Wax to shreds. Sure - House of Wax isn't an Oscar worthy movie... but who watches it expecting that?! When you go to a movie, you want entertainment right? Well House of Wax was entertaining enough that I saw it in the theaters TWICE. House of Wax has a great plot (especially if you never saw that original) and has enough thrills and twists that its wildly suspenseful, interesting and edge-of-the-seat intense. The cast is pretty solid - a lot of middle-of-the-road pop stars. But in the end, House of Wax is a house-full of fun. Guarantee you will enjoy it:

This movie wasn't as scary as previews made it out to be. Scare Tactics is scarier than this movie. The best part of the whole movie is seeing Paris Hilton get a pole through the head. I would not recommend this flick for anyone who is into really good horror films.

What a shame. I can only hope people took the time to see the original Classic that will stand the test of time. This poorly made movie was nothing like the first one. Paris Hilton also proves what a poor actress she is. Maybe if they had some actors that knew what they are doing this may have came out worth watching, but this was such a waste of time I couldn't stand to watch it to the end.
If you want to see House of Wax, watch the original it will be worth your time, not this.

House of Wax tells the story of a group of friends who fall prey to a sinister plot while passing through a small town on their way to a college football game.This movie is ok but some of the stuff the charcters do is totally stupid and unbelieveable.The effects in the film are good and the ending with the meltdown is worth watching.The film has some gore but it's not a overkill of gore.The second half of the film is better than the first half.

The story line was very good in this movie. Better then I thought it would be. But I love horror movies!!!!!! And this one was up there with wolf-creek as a boring and lame movie. The death scenes were boring. It really never described why these brothers liked killing people or why they started kill these kids. I know they were broke down and what not. It was not as good as I thought. The ending was lame and stupid. The acting was okay, but Paris Hilton was boring and she can not act. I hated this movie.

I really liked this movie it has the right amount of creepyness and gore.
and yes it has paris hilton in it and she wasnt bad either.
has a good storyline the actors were convincing and wasnt a waste of my time to watch it which is always good.
has the typical story line kids go camping stumble onto a town which they think is real by soon they find out its made out of wax and they are stalked and killed off one by one.

I purchased this for my neice. It would not be my personal choice in movies. I can't do scary movies. My neice liked it though. She said the wax people looked real and it was suspensful.

I THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE BAD because it didn't do so well in threaters and the bad rap it got but i actually like it mostly towards the end, not a paris hilton fan but i'm a fan of the others and i think why it maybe didn't do so well was because of paris maybe people thought she would be the star and live towards the end but i'm glad how it turn out and i'm glad the brother and sister lived.....

I also own the original Vincent Price version which in no way resembles the 2005 one. I think they did an excellent job on the new version. The cast did a great job and Paris did fine too! The story line itself was more interesting than the first with the 2 psycho twin brothers. If you are a big horror movie fan there is plenty of blood and gore, but not to an excess like some movies are getting to today. The special effects in the climax are what really sets this horror movie apart from so many others. Everyone I talked to who has seen it rates that as the best part of the movie. I've watched it 3 times since buying it and also saw it in the theater so if you like this type of movie, you'll love The House of Wax!

I do not really like scary movies, but this one was very interesting. My favorite part was watching Paris Hilton get what she deserves. For a horror movie, this one is by far the best one I've seen a long time. Sure to have you hanging off the edge of your seat.

what's not to like? it's a remake but it's still awesome! It's pretty scary so, not for ones with a sensitive stomach.

It's gross. It's off the wall. It's unexpected. It's twisted. It's got Paris Hilton doing a strip tease on a camp out!!! Getting into the movie you expect to be grossed out a bit, but they really surprised me with how the villain actually created his own twisted house of wax. It is definitely worth the watch and worth buying to watch over and over again.

I really like horror films and this one made me jump. That is a plus for me cause not many movies can cetch me off guard. lol that is about the jest of it all really. The quality is ok also. It can be a cheap movie or and expensive movie and still suck, but it is actually the actors that can make this what it needs to be to rate high. Though I agree that if they use fake blood that actually looks fake that takes from a movie but you have to really look at the whole picture and see it as a whole to get a good review with an honest opinion of it.All in all I'd say it is a good movie to buy if you are looking for that bump in the night that almost makes you soil your pants lol.

If you were expecting a good horror flick just because Paris Hilton is in this one your going to be disappointed.It is exactly what the title says.No less No More.I hav rad many of the reviews and it seems many of them have a biasis against Hilton.There is nothing tht she can do ever to make these people change thier minds.So take it for what it is worth.

I love this movie. It's a great movie, especially compared to most of the recent re-makes that have been made lately.
It's scary (atleast to me) has a fresh cast, and good actors (Even Paris).
I love the story line. I give this movie an A+.

The just recently bought the movie "House of Wax". House of wax was about two serial killing brothers that entomb their victims in wax. A group of friends head up to the town on a vaction and end up in their worst nightmare. I seen the movie a few years ago and was immidetly terrified and loved it. I watched it again on tv and said to myself " I have got to get his movie. It is perfect for a scary night. The movie is in great condition and nearly in mint condition. It is scary, suspenceful, and perfect to watch at night!!

I decided to purchase this DVD because it is an awesome movie. I received it really fast after purchasing it. It was in mint condition. Thank you!
