Synopsis Polly O'Keefe, from previous L'Engle novels, is now 17 and goes to stay with her patron Max who is dying. There, she discovers that Max is a lesbian, and when she tries to seduce her, Polly feels betrayed and cannot forgive her. Later, while on a trip to Greece, Polly falls in love with a young man, and through this love, learns how to forgive.
