Movie Description The luxurious - but debt-plagued - St. Gregory Hotel in New Orleans faces a battle for survival, while its staff, guests and prospective buyers generate behind-the-scenes romance, power plays, blackmail and betrayal. Based on Arthur Hailey's novel.
| Credits | | Cast: | Catherine Spaak, Karl Malden, Kevin McCarthy, Michael Rennie, Rod Taylor |
Notes Color by Technicolor.
Additional cast: Al Checco (Herbie); William Lanteau (Mason); Ken Lynch (Laswell); and Tol Avery (Kilbrick).
The film inspired a TV series, starring James Brolin as the hotel's manager and Connie Sellecca.
Despite the serious tone of much of the film, it still has humor; for example, a thief (played by Karl Malden) complains about the lack of ready cash to steal because the guests are using more credit cards than ever. It's something modern audiences are bound to find even more amusing because of the American Express commercials the actor would later star in.
