The Host by Stephenie Meyer (2008, Unabridged, Compact Disc)

The Host is Stephenie Meyer's first adult novel, although there is nothing in it that is unacceptable to a younger audience. The novel is surprisingly deep. I loved the Twilight books, but let's face it - not so much thought-provoking. The Host, however, makes you squirm as you try to decide what comprises humanity... and whether as a species we are worth saving. Like the main character in the Twilight series, this main character, Wanda, is self-less and annoyingly altruistic. Hmmm.

I bought this book with low expectations. I'm a huge fan of the Twilight series, so I thought I'd give it a chance, knowing that it could never be as good as her previous work, Twilight.

Boy was I wrong!!! THE HOST was an amazing story that had you fall in love with all of the characters. It kept you on the edge of your seat, and hungry for more! I never considered myself a sci-fi chick. Nor have I EVER had an interest in aliens. But this isn't your normal run of the mill sci-fi book. It's in it's own elite group. I can only say, it was amazing! It might even be my new favorite!!!!

I loved the book and having it on audio makes it even better. I can "read" whenever I want now. It was a great price especially for a new audiobook. The seller had a great track record.

Stephenie Meyer doesn't dissappoint with this beautifully written and stunningly executed novel. Ms. Meyer's writing goes far beyond the norm as she delivers one of the most inventive novels I've ever read. I won't go into the plot; you can get that anywhere. Just know that you cannot go wrong with anything written by Ms. Meyer. THE HOST is part science fiction, part fantasy and part breathtaking romance. Loved it!!!

Riveting, author has a rare, rare gift. I am hopelessly hooked!!! I haven't finished it all yet. I keep going anxiously, but don't want to reach the end.

Further comments 1-9-09 I gave my 12 year daughter the book and she ate it up and loved it too. My sister is now on the Host journey!

Good "read" - I got the audio book, so you must pay attention though, as it can get confusing. Sounds kind of like Scientology with the souls that bounce from planet to planet, living for millions of years... (not what you would expect from a self-proclaimed Mormon writer). Interesting story nonetheless. Never thought you could create a Body Snatchers-Romance Novel, but it was done...
Entertaining - NOwhere near the greatness of the Twilight Saga; but makes for an easy commute to work.
(The narrator is a little robotic, which gets annoying sometimes)
Overall I give it a 7 out of 10.

If you like SciFi you will love this book. This is one great read whether you are listening to it or reading it. There is a great plot and the story flows well.

Since the Twilight books were focused on the younger generation I was a little skeptical about trying this book. I was told that it was focused on a little older audience than the others so decided to take the plunge.

This book is amazing! I was so wrapped into the characters and wanting to know what was happening next I could not put it down. This book has such intricate and emotional characters. Stephenie does a wonderful job of portraying not only the feelings of the characters but the mood and the surroundings so that is like you are right there observing what is going on first hand.

This book will seriously bring to your mind thoughts about where humanity is headed and where your life is as a "human"

BRAVO Stephenie you have written brilliantly and I am looking forward to a sequel. I do hope that whomever decides to make this one into a movie is talented enough to grasp so much of the emotion and the sensuality of the human/human and human/alien relationships in this book. That will be a difficult task.

You really feel for the main characters in this book and their struggle of trying to be individuals inside of one body. I cried over some struggles and some revelations. Why can't we all find our Ian ??

A great read definitely worth purchasing

i love the story . i bought it because it was by the same author as twilight.also my niece read it and said it was good. but mostly because of the author.

STEPHENIE'S STORIES ALWAYS COME TO LIFE AND MAKE ME FEEL LIKE I'M REALLY IN THEM.
YOU FALL IN LOVE RIGHT ALONG WITH THE MAIN CHARACTER AND HER CONFLICTS ARE YOURS. ALWAYS WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENEING NEXT! a++++

Fantastic Book! I adore evrything that Stephenie writes. The characters are alive and vibrant. They have all become my personal friends. The concept behind this particular story is also incredibly interesting. Don't miss this one!
