Horses of Gettysburg - Civil War Minutes IV (DVD, 2007, Public Television Edition)

The horses that I saw I liked. However, I was disappointed that this video was more about the civil war battles than about the horses. I as thinking that I would see more harnessed horses, saddled horses and horse powered equipment but there was very little. Felt it was a misleading title. Don't recommend it.

I love horses and history so this was especially enjoyable and informative. It flowed well and I especially enjoyed the director/producer's relating his experiences with the horses on the set. Overall, a keeper. Carolyn Hoffman

Enjoyed but not living up to the title. Needed more interpersonal info on horse and rider. I was looking for Jackson, Lee and their horses inter acton during battle. Learned about horse and mules and the different type used but very shallow and lacking

THIS GIVES THE PEOPLE THAT DO NOT KNOW HORSES A BETTER VIEW OF THEIR ROLE IN HISTORY AND HOW LOYAL THEY CAN BE TO THEIR RIDER. THEY ARE VERY INTELLIGENT ANIMALS AND ARE CAPABLE OF GRIEF AND CARING JUST AS A DOG CAN BE. THEY SUFFERED VERY MUCH AND SHOULD NOT BE FORGOTTEN BECAUSE WE HAVE EQUIPMENT TO DO THEIR WORK NOW. THIS DOCUMENTARY WAS WELL DONE AND OVER DUE. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THIS SHOWN ON TV TO EDUCATE MOST CITY PEOPLE THAT DO NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THESE BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS.

As a Civil War fan, I was very interested to find out about the role horses played in the Gettyburg conflict. It was very informative, if a bit dry. I was hoping that the film would go a little more into the interpersonal relationships between the horse and his rider, but overall I would give theis 3 1/2 stars out of 5. Pretty good show.

This is a nicely produced video which provides basic information on horses in the Civil War and Gettysburg in particular. I love that it discusses the cavalry battle at East Cavalry Field, one of my favorite places in Gettysburg. Unfortunately, though, it seems this video is missing something. It isn't as in depth as a show that is based on one topic should be. I was left with the feeling that had they provided more detailed information and photos, it would have warranted a better rating.
