Horses of Gettysburg - Civil War Minutes IV (DVD, 2006, 2-Disc Boxset)

I've always been interested in the American Civil War, and Especially the Gettysburg Campaign(I live in Pennsylvania. Horses Of Gettysburg was very interesting and informative with information about the numbers of Horses and Mules used during the battle and in general through out the war, how they were trained, etc. There is a very good segment on Equestrian statues also. It leaves one feeling a bit sad for the poor animals that were killed. If you like the Civil War or are just looking for another perspective, this is a Must Have for your collection

Outstanding documentary perfect for horse lovers, history buffs & re-enactors. Shows the little discussed, but major role of horses and mules in the Civil War. Well made, very informative and easy to watch (not like some documentaries).

I was happy to see this topic was finally addressed. Beautiful photography, and since the filming, many views of the actual battlefields and sites filmed in this production have been surrounded by urban sprawl. A fitting tribute.

This docu-drama is well done although if you are a horse enthusiast, you will find that this DVD is less about horses than the title and description suggests. While there are some good parts about the horses, more often than not the discussion settles around a battle and the horse term is thrown in to make the storyline reflective of the title. If you are looking for a horse story here, I would suggest that you pass on this one.

I purchased this video to send in my husband's Care package. He is currently deployed to the gulf and enjoys watching movies on his personal dvd player. My husband gave up his hobby of flying so that I could keep my "horse habit" it has slowly won him over, he enjoys history so this was a perfect fit for him. He loved it! I can't wait to watch it with him when he gets home!
