Horse Soldiers by Doug Stanton (2009, Hardcover)

There are few books that I pick up and don't put down until I've finished it. I ended up staying up all night, I didn't finish it until morning. This is one of the great books about combat. Once the action starts it doesn't stop. The Marines consider this battle one of their greatest. Three Medals of Honor were earned during this battle. For those that are familiar with the Marine Corps you know how difficult it is to earn any medal for valor. The reason for this is simple Marines as a whole tend to give their all in combat.

If you are going to read only one book on Americans in combat this should be the book.

I like that stories such as these don't get a lot of attention, which they deserve, and I'm glad Mr. Stanton took the time to research and tell the story of heroism that often goes unnoticed.

I recently went to actually see the Famous Lipizzan Stallion in my town and they were beautiful an gracfu with there hooves and movements, i didnt know there was a movie out there that was about them, so i went and bought it , its really amazing that general Patton helped save the breed with help from some german soldiers, and kept to Lipizzans alive through the war. it amovie i tthing that everyone in the horse worldand outside of it should watch and go andsee them preform live.

It's the hard, ugly truth of war. Excellent read, fast and engaging.
