The Horse Soldiers (DVD, 2001)

I bought this movie because it is one of my all time favorites. This is based on a true story about a Union raid into the heart of the Confederacy during Grants battle for Vickburg. John Wayne and William Holden are excellent in this movie. Defiantely one to own for any Civil War buff.

This movie was filmed in the Natchitoches LA area where I lived for nearly three years. I attended the premier at a theater in Shreveport LA where I lived many, many years. Great John Wayne fan and since I am so familiar with the various landmarks shown in the film, it has special meaning to me. Very entertaining and great to have a movie with John Wayne and William Holden as the stars.

I plan to buy all my movies here at Ebay. Ebay has a huge selection of movies. I have found all the movies I have been looking for at lower prices than retail stores. Of coarse, like everywhere, you have read the product description. I am very pleased so far with the purchases I have made. I intend to inform family and friends about Ebay.

John Wayne at his best. Tough and rough but a softie really. Good story line and having William Holden as a co star was a bonus.

My check for the DVD was opened and ressealed and stamped "Refused, return to sender. I have heard lots of good things about selling and buying on e-Bay so I won't let this one experience keep me from trying again if and when an item comes up that I want to buy.

For the John Wayne people, this a classic Duke picture. He plays a rough and tumble no nonsense Yankee Commander in the Civil War, taking on the impossible mission behind Confederate lines. William Holden plays the Calvary Surgen who is at constant odds with Wayne, and looks down on him and his command. They end up under the roof of the Souther Bell played by Constance Towers, who is true blue to the South and everything it stands for. With a great dislike for Yankees, she accidently overhears secret plans and must be taken prisoner by Wayne. She does all she can to disrute the Yankees plans, but in the end falls in love with the compassionate nature the John Wayne portrays. Great movie to watch with the entire family.

An adventure film typical of what Hollywood was producing in the early 60s. The characters were straight forward with unambiguous values. It was fun to see John Wayne and William Holden again. The story line resembles Grierson's Raid only sligltly but what do you expect when you include a pretty blond and a love story that was never meant to be. dsb

I loved this movie for many years. My Uncle wrote the opening song and played US Grant in the movie. It is set in the middle of the Civil War but is timely for us today. A country ripped in half, exactly what is happening today. The main conflict now is far away, but the results are the same. One of John Wayne's best roles constantly trying to keep his troops together while enduring conflict after conflict. New packaging and good sound make this even a better bargain.
I had been looking at the movie in stores, but the price was kind of high. I have purchased other things from this e-bay member and decided to go ahead and purchase 7 movies at once due to fair pricing.
