A 1968 offering from Walt Disney, starring Dean Jones and Diane Baker with Disney's favorite Mousketeer Kurt Russell in a nice supporting role, this film has a great family oriented plot with a believable storyline. it's great fun for all ages.
A frustrated New York ad executive (Jones) is in BIG trouble, (at home as well as the office). His daughter, a gifted young equestrienne, wants nothing more than to own her own thoroughbred show horse, but with dad's floundering finances he simply can not afford it. To complicate matters, there is the order from his boss that he come up with an interesting ad campaign for the company's newest product contractor, a stomach pill called "Aspercel", or find another job.
Realizing that he just might be able to combine his daughter's needs with his own, he decides that the best thing to do is to pitch the idea of a thoroughbred jumper named "Aspercel" winning trophies and taking honors all over the country to his boss...and bingo! The company will buy a horse for his daughter to ride, and name it "Aspercel," and both problems are solved...right? Not!
Although the company kicks in the cash to purchase one of the world's finest jumping horses, and he convinces his boss that his beautiful young daughter is the very person to show the horse, nothing seems to work out right. The horse loses, the daughter can't get herself up to snuff as a show jumper, and so he is again in danger of losing his job and his daughter will lose her horse if he can't get things to work out right...and fast!
A fun romp for the family, especially for those horse-loving kids who dream of a horse of their very own! Everyone wins in the end, but not in the way they expected to! A winner for the family movie collection. I highly recommend this one.
