Help At The Right Time!

As a sufferer of GAD (generalized anxiety disorder), I have been looking for any and all possible treatments to improve my life, as anxiety can be crippling!I bought this book on the advice of a person that used to be an anxiety sufferer as well. I am glad that I did. This book, though written originally in 1969, is full of information that is still pertinent today. Dr. Weekes was basically a pioneer in the use of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. She talks to you thru this book as if if she is sitting right beside you, telling you what to do to get better. She is open and honest, but reassuring at the same time. Although it didn't bother me, she does approach the anxiety subject, along with sometimes accompanying depression, as something that can be conquered without drugs. This is true in many cases, of course, BUT it doesn't take into account what science has since learned about serotonin and other chemicals in the brain and how these can affect our emotions and behavior. One must remember that the book was originally written in the 60's but the basic principles that she teaches are still just as true and relevant today. If you have any sort of anxiety/panic disorder and are serious about getting better, I highly recommend this book to you!
