Hoodwinked (DVD, 2006, Widescreen)

This movie was hilarious. It has a great cast (Anne Hathaway, Anthony Anderson, Glenn Close, Jim Belushi, Patrick Warburton, and Andy Dick) and the animation is crisp and clean.

The humor will have both children and adults laughing their buns off. This is one of the better animated feature films to come out in the last 3 years.

Rent or Buy?: I rented it and have seen it twice on the movie channel. I'm also 22. If you have children you should buy this film for them, if you don't a rental will do.

Hoodwinked is loosely based on the Classic story - Little Red Riding Hood, though for us, the original in its short simple rendition, is the better of the two. I got the impression that the producers of this tried to run with the classic story then quickly ran out of original ideas, or ways to expand upon the initial tale and hence we get a movie that simple drags!!
The premise of the movie sounds good - take an all star cast including Anne hathaway, Glenn Close and James Belushi, and a much loved tale...and tell the whole story, putting across everyone's arguments from Red Riding Hood, to Granny down to the Wolf...plus add a little mystery to the case...in this case a their who is stealing recipes from the townsfolk and disrupting their business which gives the movie more material to work with.
However, this still fails to work....scenes are repetitive, our toddler and older cousin quickly lost interest...the same toddler who will sit through more compex movies such as Harry Potter - was bored and ; and frankly I see why!! There is no real plot...or at least not enough to last the 80 minute run time. The characters are not appealing and fail to draw the viewer into the story and pfr us, we could not care less who was the villain...we just wanted this to end!
For me, this and Doogal tie as the most unappealing, unimaginative childrens movies of the year!! An 80 minute bore!

This Granny Rocks! Great movie to teach young children investigation techniques... Great movie for the entire family where the adults will enjoy some of the humour and comedy. The various characters will keep the attention of the younger children. Keep in mind that it is PG.

I finally broke down and bought this movie, because we were borrowing it from my parents so much. They are in their late 40's and they love it. We have two toddlers and they both love it. My husband doesn't care much for animated movies, but he is actually the one that asked me to buy it!!

This movie is loosely based on the fairy tale Red Riding Hood as you probably already know. The all star voice cast includes - Andy Dick, Anne Hathaway, David Ogden Stiers, Glenn Close, Jim Belushi, Patrick Warburton, & Xzibit. What I haven't seen in any reviews, is the fact that it is so far from the expected, you actually should watch it twice to let it all sink in. I must admit, the first time I watched it, I wasn't too hot on it. Then we watched it again and I started to spot all the little details and one liners. (HINT: Turning the subtitles on while watching brings deeper enjoyment as you can hardly understand the chipmunk. Plus you catch more of the jokes.)

The wolf by far is my favorite character. He is based on Chevy Chase's character Fletch. He is an investigative reporter that is trying to crack the case of the goody bandit and is forever being mis-understood and suspected. His squirrel sidekick, Twitchy, is a crack up. Together they help crack the case at the end. In the meantime, watch for many "Fletch" references, everything from an afro haired basketball player in a purple and yellow jersey (sound familiar?) to a guy in disguise that can't stop talking and won't give the same last name when asked. My favorite line from the wolf is, "As God as my witness, you will learn to speak." Watch for it in the movie when he is talking with Twitchy.

Some other great scenes are when the always prepared, singing mountain goat "does not feel prepared", when Granny's secret, double life is exposed, the slow motion snowboarding fight scene, and the famous Schnitzel Song sung by all the little German children and the schnitzel-on-a-stick truck driver, "Kirk the Woodsman", also an avid endorser of Paul's Bunion Foot Cream, it sends Bunion's running for the hills. Plus many others.

All in all, a must have for your collection. 5 out of 5 stars. I really hope they make over more fairy tales in this fashion. Great stuff.

"Hoodwinked" is a truly wonderful animated film that my entire family throughly enjoyed. It is so hard to find a movie these days that can be equally enjoyed by adults and children, but "Hoodwinked" conquers all age groups! The film is hilarious and the whole set-up of the plot is witty and charming. The animation is very good and ranks with "Monsters, Inc." and "Robots". My children are still quoting jokes from this movie and we saw it last week. I think that it is age-appropriate for young children through the teenage years. Oh, and adults will enjoy it, too!! This movie even kept my husband entertained (he usually falls asleep during the "kid" movies). You will not be able to tell your children the bedtime story, "Little Red Riding Hood" again without thinking of this movie. It gives a whole new perspective on Granny and the Wolf. And I always wondered what Little Red Riding Hood carried in her basket for Granny, didn't you?? I highly encourage everyone to see this movie, better yet, buy the DVD and watch it again and again.

It was a good price for a great movie! I'm a pretty hard movie critic and this movie wasn't perfect. But it was good enough to make me smile quite a bit and had me watching it 3-4 times that first week to make sure I captured all of the humor that is baked into nearly every aspect of the movie. And the kids love it, too. Good, wholesome family entertainment...something that's getting pretty hard to find these days.

The movie was full of good old fashion humor. No ethnic jokes, lude comments, or gross inuendos. Great story, kids loved it and My husband and I enjoied it too!

Very unhappy with the product. The product came in a foreign lanuage without any subtitles or English option. I was unable to watch the movie since it would not work in any of my DVD players. It only works in a portable player. I have not heard from the seller at all to rectify this situation. I do not recommend any products from this seller.

This movie took about 10minutes to get into it's groove but after that it was magic. An animated kids style of 'Run Lola' or 'Go'. You get to see this movie about 4 main characters in the same senario but different points of view. Us adults sat through it happily and the kids have already watched it a couple of times so it cant be all that bad.

I never got this movie and was the only thing I ever got on e-bay that failed to come, most dealers and sellers are on the up and uop but you have to look at the ffedback to big with some saftey in mind, who what where and why is because my kids wanted to see this movie and enjoy it and I loved the price until it didn't come.

The movie is great. I can't believe that I actually received the movie in the actual shrink wrap. The movie is originally for my daughter. She absalutely loves and adores it.

There's more than meets the eye with this movie. Hoodwinked displays a great lesson on judging character. Additionally, it has a well written plot with interwoven stories of fun personalities and upbeat music. Each suspect tells their account of what happened at Little Red Riding Hood's grandma's house. She's not an old fashioned grandma, by the way. The frog inspector is darling and there's a line about some pigs in a land fraud deal that tease of a sequel. It's a great movie to watch more than once--checking how everything fits together so well. I suggest buying it--you'll get your money's worth.

I wanted to see what the movie was about. I love cartoons and thought that it would be a funny cartoon. This movie was not that funny and it moved too slow.

This movie was funny all the way through, it is not your everyday animated movie, great watch I would recomend at least watching once, I have seen it twice.

I watched this one and must say that overall it failed to impress. It did not annoy, and did not flop. I just had no real wow factor.

Considering that it was not made five years ago, the quality of the computer animation is inexcusable. My PC does far better in real time playing any number of video games. The story saved the movie as it is actually a decent and well executed plot - but it won't have much rewatch value, so rent. Don't buy. That offset the poor animation.

Then we toss in the characters. I rate most of the characters as good to excellent. I especially love the Wolf and his sidekick the squirl. But then they had to have some truely abysmal musical scenes that just grated like fingernails on the chalkboard. Oh my! Red is Blue? Where's the fast forward?

Conclusion: It is OK, and could obviously been better had someone wished it to be. Rent it. Don't buy it.

My husband and I love this movie, it is so funny! We bought one awhile ago and it started skipping so we decided to buy a new one.

The movie is great! You can watch it over and over again and keep catching hilarious lines that you couldn't possibly catch in the first viewing. It's definately a different twist on Red ridding Hood.

My son really enjoys this movie. It is a funny movie for kids. I bought this movie for him for a Christmas gift.

My daughter rented this one weekend and fell in love with it! So now we have our own copy and it is a popular movie when friends come over. Very cute story, GREAT characters.

This is one of my all time favorites! HILARIOUS movie with lots of known actors/actresses. Definitely recommend it.

My family , from 7 to 52, has watched this many times over. We have favorite parts we quote and scenes that still make us laugh. You see something new every time. Intelligent humor!

This is a great little movie! I found it very entertaining. It may have been marketed for kids, however, the dialogue is definitely adult-aimed hilarious. It is difficult to find new. I bought this used copy in good condition. The shipping cost was more than I paid for the dvd but often the cost of shipping is not controllable by the sellers. Overall, it is great entertainment and the animation is first hand.

i loved this movie.the best way to enjoy this movie is to just buy it and do not read the back cover.i first saw a glimpse of it on another movie i bought and i turned down the sound to not spoil it.it is a creative way of telling a fairy tale.it has a modern day twist to it.it is a just feel good movie to sit down and watch this with your whole family.yes i did say whole family.there is no cursing.the under the breathe comments by the characters are just too cute.the plot is nice and simple with a twist.it is like a who done it mystery.my teenager enjoyed it as well as the wife and i.
