Homicide: Life on the Street - The Complete Seasons 1 & 2 (DVD, 2003, 4-Disc Set)

This show was one of the most well written shows that was out there. It had more of a cult following rather than a ratings monster. Yet NBC remained faithful to our fans and week after week we got the treat of Pemeberton going at someone in the "box".

I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves great acting, writing and gritty stories.

Homicide, Life on the Street, is in my not-so humble view, the best television series of its genre. Everything came together for this show, great ensemble acting, writing, direction, even the music was perfectly suited to the show.

this is a great series and season 1&2 are some of the best episodes. all the seven seasons have awesome episodes though

This terrific series for some odd reason never got the attention it deserved. First of all, the cast is awesome. They fit together in an odd sort of way and make the characters so real. You get a feeling that these are people that you've known all your life. Some characters you will immediately fall in love with and others you will love to hate. These people annoy you, confuse you, make you laugh and make you cry, just to scratch the surface. The way the show is filmed gives it a realism that other TV crime shows just can't match. You not only follow the Homicide Detectives on cases, in which you get profound sound and visual effects, but you get to see the human side of these detectives. You get to follow them emotionally so to speak, see how they deal with each crime or death, each victim and each suspect on a personal level, while trying to deal with their co-workers, and their own personal lives outside of work. The storylines never get boring and the quality never ceases to amaze. The show just gets better and better. When this show was airing, I never missed an episode (if I could help it), and now that I have it on DVD from beginning to end, I'm thrilled to know that I own this brilliant collection all for myself. Can you tell how much I LOVE this show? From the streets of Baltimore to the box, this show can't be beat.

Beginning of the best cop show ever! This show has great character development. You have the ability to see actual personalities of the characters beyond their law enforcement jobs.

This was my favorite T.V. show. I am now the proud owner of season 1 & 2. If you like intense drama, this show is for you! You will not be disapointed.

One of the best TV shows ever.Used to watch reruns but they are no longer on TV. Their are no dislikes about it.

Without a doubt, Homicide Life on the Street was one of the best shows on television. Season 1 and 2 were absolutely phenominal... the writing was fantastic and Andre Braugher was amazing a Pembleton. Homicide is an all-time great that belongs in everyone's dvd collection.

Many bootleg copies on Ebay, do your research prior to purchasing. I am severely hearing impaired and require closed captioning for all DVDs I view. Search online to see if a DVD you wish to purchase offers closed captioning by the manufacturer. Almost all do and if you receive DVDs without it, it's guaranteed to be a bootleg from Asia.

This a TV show I loved when it was on. Very happy to buy the DVD's and cheaper than shop prices. A great result all round.

This series was purchased because I became aware of it in the process of checking out the HBO series The Wire. Both take place in Baltimore - an area very familiar to me and geographically close.
As expected, this series is inferior to The Wire in a number of ways: the video is of a MUCH lower quality; the videotography is extremely amateurish, unless it was meant to be that way to intensify the "immediacy" of the drama
and the familiar faces from other shows, particularly Ned Beatty, who while doing an excellent job, is someone whose rotund affability is always overdone and distracting!
The most important message of Homicide...is the same as The Wire:
The tragidy of the black people, as a race, being evidently quite content in both doing this sort of brutal semiethnic cleansing and that it doesn't seem to bother or upset even those not even distantly involved in it - even the black police who are - at least in these stories - almost complacent about the horific things being done to their own and are really enabling it.
It will never to be possible to convince me that as Bill Cosby puts it so well - the Black people in this country have done far more damage to their own people than all the White people since day one have even coceived of doing!

I like the adventures and it reminds me of Law and Order. I can recommend this to anybody who likes Law and Order will like Homicide: Life on the Street. This season 1 and 2 shows where the program started and how it advanced thru the seven seasons.

Great-I discovered homicide on an old cable station. I like it very much but wish the dvd I bought was closed captioned. However I am very pleased.Thanks to e-bay and seller.

This is an EXCELLENT series about the Homicide department of the local city police set in Baltimore. Stories are well written, acting is first class, great characters. Very believable! I highly recommend this to anyone who likes drama, polices stories and the like. I intend to purchase the subsequent years for the full run of the show.

This was one of the best Police Dramas on television back in the early 90's.
This show paved the way for shows like Law&Order, CSI, and few others.

The best feature of this television show in my opinion was how the show gave a
human feel to Police work, specifically Homicide detectives.
Not only did it show the effect a death had on victims but it also showed how
passionate Homicide detectives are in finding/solving the murders/deaths.

My favorite character on this show was Frank Pembleton, he was always very passionate and always did everything with an exclamation point! The actor Andre Braugher, is a Chicago native and is definitely one of the best actors of the show.

It was in great shape. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't in shrink wrap but it played and looked like a new copy.

I bought this for someone who has repeatedly told me that “Homicide: Life on the Street” is one of the five best television series of all time. To say that he was thrilled with the gift would be an understatement. And, I was just as pleased as he was, as I got to give hours and hours of pleasure to someone I care about. The phrase “win/win” is used a great deal but rarely is true. This was certainly the exception

About a month ago I bought the DVD and was immediately impressed by getting both seasons for an incredibly low price. I liked that it was new and in pristine condition. I decided to buy it because my mother wanted it. As a result I started to buy all my boxed sets from ebay. I was very pleased
