A great resource for the budding home recordist.

I bought this book because I, as are so many others, am interested in recording my own music, at home. It has turned out to be an invalueable source of information for me. It has everything you need, from choosing equipment, set-up, recording basics, to mastering your recordings. All the bases are covered, and there's no bias towards any one format, or style of recording. I'd say this would even be a good book for a pro to have around, just for reference, or the occasional brain fart.
That having been said, it does have it's drawbacks. There isn't really as much information for people wanting to record analog over digital. It's becoming harder, and more expensive to get the materials, and digital is easier, and cleaner for most people. Much of the info is the same, but phrased as though you are going to use digital equipment. I prefer the analog sound, but can't afford it myself. There are some tips in here to help you achieve that sound, if you like. There also isn't as much information for people on a very tight budget either, as I am. I am making due with what I can, but certainly cannot go spend over $1000 on new equipment. That's a pretty small equipment budget anyway. This book is best suited for somebody who is willing to throw down some cash.
I will say, this book has helped me tremendously in picking the right gear in the first place. I haven't even got enough to start recording yet, and it has helped me a lot. It is saving me from being foolish, and going gear happy. I am thinking more, and researching my options for equipment, as opposed to my old method of "that one seems good". This book will strongly discourage you from frivelous spending on useless gear (as fun as that is).
All in all, I'd say this is a great book for anyone wanting to drop a couple weeks to a couple months pay to start your home recording project. The information is solid, and consise. It is easy to follow, and very helpful to people of different backgrounds, budgets, musical styles, and technical experience. A must have!
