Home Improvement 1-2-3 by The Home Depot (2003, Hardcover, New)

I picked up this book when I first bought my first house. I find that this is a must own for any new home owner.

This book covers everything that you might have to repair in your new home. If you have no real experience (Like I did) with home repairs this book is great.

The Home Depot has split this book into 12 major sections: painting, wallpaper, plumbing, electrical, walls & ceilings, flooring, windows, cabinets countertops & shelving, insulation & weatherproofing, exterior, and heating and Ventilation.

The best part in each section is that it has *MANY* pictures to show you what to do, along with in depth written instructions. They tell you the tools and supplies that you need and help you get along step by step. The book also has repairs in each section split up by easy, medium, hard, and do not attempt as an amateur for each type of repair.

When I damage something or something goes wrong with my house I grab this book and see if I can fix it myself. I also now give this book to all my friends that purchase their first new home.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to understand. The areas covered were everyday situations one might incounter with their home.

I like that it covers so many subjects, lots of pictures. I would like more pictures and more in depth instructions, but maybe that is because I am a first time homeowner and new to all of this. Overall a great book to give you some info on almost everything.

It's a great book for students or young professions who doesn't have a lot of experiences in the home improvement department. Love the book!

You can not go wrong with knowledge. This book gives you knowledge in a very user friendly format geared towards beginners. Seeing each project laid out does more than instruct do-it-yourselfers. Understanding how something is put together brings some insight in diagnosing problems. Having the pictures and terminology can help you to communicate effectively if you are preparing for the job or hiring someone else to do the job. If you hire someone to do the job having this book is somewhat like getting a second opinion on how and what needs to be done.

This book is perfect for new homeowners! If you have lots of things you want to do around the house or just like to know what your getting yourself into before you start this is a great reference. The book exlains the project, the tools you need, what experience level you need to be and how long it should take based on your experience. I did find the time to complete section to be a little off. It said it would take a beginner 8 hours to put in a chandelier and it only took about 4 hours including the quick trip to Home Depot. I highly recommend this book if you are new to home improvements and want to tackle the project on your own!

awesome for first time home owners that does not no nothing it is very helpful and well worth the money

This book is great! I rented it from my local library, and after seeing how useful a book like this could be I decided to buy the book...actually I bought almost all of the home depot books just on the chance I wanted to spruce up the place.
What I like best about this book (and the others in the series too) is how the entire process of the project is broken down in small steps.

The book also has great visual aides showing how to preform the step at hand.
