Entertaining for Paul Newman fans

The review by the LA Times says Hombre is "Hard Hitting and Exciting." It is neither. But it is interesting if you like watching Paul Newman on screen; which is why I bought it. I like the quiet, contemplative characters he often plays. Contrary to what some of the trailers allude to, Newman plays a white man who was captured and raised by the Apache indians when he was young, and not a half-breed or full-blooded indian like so many other films of the era used to foist on the public. On the outside, he's white, but inside, he's Apache and he plays the part well. This film is typical for the era; slow moving, improbable situations, and not a lot happening. For people living today who are used to experiencing action/adventure movies ripping through 2 hours with non-stop excitement, Hombre is a drama through and through. If you like Newman, get it; it's a slightly different role for him and you will probably enjoy it.
