Dake Bible-The Ultimate Study Bible??????

The Dake Annotated Reference Bible is a fascinating study Bible, and one that definitely stands out from all others. But it doesn't always stand out in good ways. The Dake has an incredible amount of study information in it, vastly more than any other study Bible I have ever seen (and I own several different study Bibles and have examined many others in stores). The amount of info in the Dake can sometimes be overkill. If you are a new Christian who does not yet have a really good, solid, basic understanding of the Bible, DO NOT buy the Dake Bible. The level of detail in the study info will only overwhelm and confuse you. New Christians need a study Bible that will explain basic Christian doctrines clearly and concisely, without throwing in so much extra detail that they will often obscure the main, basic points.
The amount of study info Dake Bible also physically overpowers the main Biblical text. You often have to look hard at each page to figure out what is text and what is study info. The print of the text is also not that big and easy to read, even on the large print edition. On the regular size edition, the print size of the main text is no bigger than that of many pocket size Bibles. As far as the compact edition.....great if you have an electron microscope handy. This keeps the Dake from being a very good general reading Bible, one that you want to settle back with and read through several chapters at a time. The large print edition is the only one with a really legibly sized text, but it is hampered by being a physically large and cumbersome volume.
The theology of the Dake Bible is basically fundamentalist, but there are some areas that are questionable. For example, the Dake promotes the Gap Theory in Genesis 1. The Gap Theory is a way to compromise between Creation and evolution. The Dake claims it is supported by the main Biblical text, but really isn't.
The Dake is a great Bible for more advanced Christians who have a good solid understanding of the Bible, as well as another Bible for general reading, but want to study a short passage in detail. The Dake gives the amount of info you would otherwise have to go through several other reference books to find. The Dake is particularly useful for preachers preparing a sermon. It is a great study Bible for certain uses, but is not a good, all around Bible.
