Afong's HOGs in the Shadows gives an unvarnished look at what it was and is like to be a marine sniper in Iraq. No holds are barred in the narrative: The quest for kills, the need to take out insurgents to protect fellow marines, the split-second decision-making that needed to be made as to whether a target was an innocent civilian or a deadly terrorist; it's all here. Both hits and misses are recorded. Not one sniper goes through his tour with a perfect record. Some of these men were grievously wounded. For anyone with an interest in either the Iraq War or sniping, this book is an invaluable addition to your library and is highly recommended.

these young men are trained to kill with one shot - they are our sons , brothers, Dad's, cousins, - and they are Americans
very good read, telling their stories in short one chapter style of various engagements, all sniper related
makes you realize how tough their job is , AND how well they do it
highly recommend it - some neat pictures are included and if you like modern military reading, about what is going on in the war on terrorism , this is a good one
if you like to read about snipers, this is about as good as it gets and definitely up to date
if you like to read about Marines, devil dogs, jar heads, leather necks , taking it to the enemy , this is the book
God bless our troops, especially our snipers !!!
