Just saw this movie about the Discworld version of Christmas (Hogswatch) based on Terry Pratchett's story series. Where do I start with this absolutely perfect adaptation? The spot-on casting - Susan, Death, Albert, Nobby Nobbs, Ponder Stibbons, all brought to life wonderfully. The faithfulness to the story - keeping it at nearly 4 hours to ensure the minimum amount of cutting. The perfect locations - Death's Domain, Unseen University, the Tooth Fairy's castle, all brilliant! I'm so glad Pratchett let them do this!
Sky One, Vladim Jean and the rest involved did a wonderful job on such a small budget, and gave us a far better and more faithful adaptation than Hollywood could ever have mustered.
Full marks, it really gave me a buzz in the Christmas season. This a great movie for kids and adults, both. It looks very Harry Potter-ish, too.

Very good science fiction movie! About a parallel universe called Discworld, with a twist on our holiday christmas, to them it's called Hogswatch. But their dare Hogfather is in harms way, someone or something wants him out of the way. Now's it's up to the most unlikely of friends to get the holiday back on before humanity loses all hope.

Seems a bit slow paced, but a bit of all right if your a fan of Mr. Pranchet's work. Almost plays out at times like a thinking mans Harry Potter. It'll be a new Holiday season tradition at my home.

The whole movie was great fun. I can't think of anything about it I didn't like. Great for kids of all ages.

Kids love it and have watched it repeatedly for the first few days. Still watch it on occassion. Price was decent and no defects have been found. Really interesting story.

If you're a fan of Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, all things English, especially the humour, you will LOVE this series!! A British miniseries based on Terry Pratchett's renowned Discworld reality, it's scary, funny, quirky and ultimately satisfying. Can't think of anything bad to say about it. It's heartwarming without being over the top corny.

Bought it for my husband who is a die-hard Terry Pratchett fan. The movie is well-done and is sure to be a Christmas classic (especially in our home). The movie is very long but very entertaining- I would suggest seeing the entire movie by breaking it up into a two night viewing (there is a very short intermission which is a good time to break and watch the rest a second night). Biggest problem with this DVD is the interview with Pratchett is not edited well so the author is seen as very redundant, otherwise the movie is very good if you love out-there fantasy!

It was a great movie! Very close to the book. I bought it for my boyfriend--he is really into terry pratchet and he had gotten a vhs copy. I offered to buy him a dvd copy and he loved it

Loved the movie when I rented it. Impulsively bought it on E-Bay. I disliked the amount of time it took to get to me without any communication from the seller. Other than that, it was still in the wrapper when I recieved it.

I stumbled across Hogfather quite by accident being broadcast on an obscure independant TV station last year and was instantly hooked by it's quirky nature and splendid production quality!

It's definitely an epic ADULT oriented Christmas metaphor that ultimately leads to an amazingly concise, lucid and compassionate definition of why we humans have such tendancies to engage in fantasy and unscientific belief. With a run time of 3 hours, Hogfather slowly tears apart the myth and mystery of the most cherished childhood perceptions of a fat man in a red suit, replaces it with logic, truth and a heavy dose of dark and diabolical evil. But it ultimately restores human faith in the unbelievable with the wit, wisdom and human empathy of the most unlikely of heros; Death himself. And Michelle Dockery as Death's half human grandaughter is also a delightful lead character. You may need to view this movie several times to discovery all the entertaining nuances imbedded in this film.

Brilliantly cast and directed, it has become a new holiday classic in my home since it's recent American Region 1 DVD release. But it's also high quality entertainment suitable for viewing and enjoying year round. We need more movies with such substance.

If you can get over the trippy quality of the story telling (it is a fantasy alternate reality, after all), this movie is well worth watching. The characters are unique, and the wit is dry and thought-provoking. It's the tale of a drily funny death who takes over Santa's role. Those who love reaper would get the joke. The heroine is vulnerable yet powerful at the same time--and she doesn't need a man to make her life meaningful. The villain is one of the quirkiest characters. He is everything the movie version of Voldemort should have been in that he is always in control, does not lose his temper, and is most dangerous when he's asking if you want to be his friend. Yet he's a picked on boy who never grew up. It's kind of long and slow to build, but the social commentary and witty lines keep the audience going. Highly recommendable.

It is an extremely quirky movie that is just a delight to watch, as far as I'm concerned!
It has interesting characters, portrayed by excellent actors.
If one is unfamiliar with the book on which the movie is based (as am I), it makes no difference to the enjoyment of the movie, as it stands on its own as a complete story, though it does require paying attention to understand this alternate universe.
It is a long movie, but that just increases my enjoyment of it.

Excellent movie for those that like the wacky and odd genre. I am a cult classic fanatic and I am sure that this particular movie will fall into this category without a doubt.

Ill give it a rating of good as it's not as good as the book was; but what movie ever is. Also that the way Pratchett's books are written it is a considerable undertaking to make a movie out of them. For those familiar with Pratchett's work I would recommend this movie whole-heartedly. For those unfamiliar with Pratchett's work: where have you been? Seriously if you like things that are funny, a bit out of whack but still have a good amount of thinking and philosophy to it look up anything Terry Prachett. As for this specific movie; a wonderful film filled with laughs for all an easy contemporary Xmas Classic.

Been reading Pratchett's books and am interested in seeing how the movie would look outside my imaginaiion but haven't been home long enough to put in my DVD player and actually watch it yet. Will write again when I've actually seen the film.

I've long loved the Discworld series, so I was delighted to learn that some of the books had been made into movies. And "Hogfather" did not disappoint my expectations: it was every bit as fun and crazy as the novel! Certain voices, such as Death's voice, were processed in order to follow the format of the book. Details such as the Death of Rat's parenthetical commentary were heeded. As a reader, my only nitpick is that Binky hadn't a blue hair on him. But my overwhelming reaction is that it was delightfully zany trip through one of Terry Pratchett's wonderful novels!

If you're a Terry Pratchett fan, you will love this movie. They did an excellent job sticking to the book. Hogfather the movie makes a great addition to any Discworld collection. The characters are easily recognized. The only disappointment was the Librarian didn't make an appearance in the movie.
If your not familiar with the Discworld, never fear! I am assured by my non PTerry fans that the movie was fun and exciting and the plot easy to follow. This movie will quickly become a Hogwatch, I mean Christmas favorite in any household!

If you like Terry Pratchett, and if you don't - what's wrong with you?, this is a great adaptation of a great book. If you haven't read the novel already, please read it before watching the DVD, it will make your life better in every way. If you don't have time for that, get a job as one of the pinheads who decide that all reviews must have at least 100 words. Lets see if this works now.

i liked the great price and fast shipping. hogfather is based of of a terry prachet book that i liked so i wanted to buy the movie. i decided to buy it because i saw it on t.v. and liked the movie.
