The mature rating isn’t there just for show. Hitman: Contracts is a game intended for a mature audience. Whether you are a devoted fan who has been following the adventures of Agent 47 since the beginning or just a newcomer, this game will satisfy even the most deviant of gamers. This is the third installment of the now successful Hitman series.

The majority of the missions are triggered by brief flashbacks presented in excellent quality via cut scenes. It is almost safe to say that if you have not played the first game (Hitman: Codename 47), you are in for a treat. Multiple missions are just a rehash of assignments found in the very first game. The developers were either lazy or just thought that this would be the perfect occasion to re-explain everything for those who are unfamiliar with the game. Although a clever technique, it has not pleased too many fans. Despite the fact that this is a good game, this is not the only flaw. The term “flaw” may not be the best way to explain this; let’s just say that this game is surprisingly similar to Hitman 2: Silent Assassin. The animations are all the same, the awkward “skating” movements are back, and there are some minor clipping issues.

Although this all might seem like an expansion to the second game, it has been confirmed that this is a brand new game. Albeit the few errors, there are memorable moments and you will not regret playing this game. It has been released on all platforms but the best experience will be found on the PC. Not only are the graphics sharper on the PC version, but the mouse/keyboard combination works out really well. A new addition to this game is the ability to go into first person mode. This is a nice touch since it adds to the versatility of the game. Gamers will be able to play the entire game in either first or third person. (They can even mix and match if they wish.)

The system requirements aren’t too demanding and almost any machine can run the game. Even on the lowest settings, the game still looks impressive. Although [re]playing missions you (may) have already played in the first game might seem like a chore, the brand new implementations to the graphical engine are a sight for sore eyes. What stand out the most are the weather effects. Every mission is played during the night and only a few actually have nice weather. The rest of the levels contain rain, snow, etc. Surprisingly, none of these effects slow the game down. The only time where the game slightly slows down is when you are facing multiple enemies on the screen or are experiencing the after-smoke effects following multiple gunshots. The special effects have been totally redone for this game. The weather conditions are perfectly done and every gun has a different sound and muzzle flash. The smoke lingers after each shot which adds to the authenticity of the game. Smaller calibers have less smoke while shotguns and rifles have a lot more smoke. It's little details like this that make the game seem so realistic.

Hitman: Contracts may seem like a cheap imitation the first time around but as you play it, you will learn to love it. It is quite unique in its own style and every single “main” character in the game is different in every sense of the word. Each mission is different with its own respective weather effects. Whether you are stealthy or just enjoy shooting everything that moves, this game is for you either way and you will not get bored with it anytime soon.

Exactly what I expected in action scenarios. One complaint I have, is in the mouse controls. No Xbox option, only mouse/keybd controls. Mouse response in terms of aiming guns and direction of movement is very slow. You can adjust mouse sensitivity, but it's between too sensitive and not sensitive enough. Hard to get that right level. But you get used to it. Maybe my processor is too slow [2.7ghz]. Other than that, the graphics are adequate. Not as great as say, GHOST RECON, which is my favorite "shoot-em-up" game. Very good progression of skill levels and new missions {endless}. You will get addicted in short order. After you master the controls, it's great. However, not much in the way of instructions. You will have to discover them, pretty much on your own by trial and error. But for the price, it's worth it. I play it at least 3 times a day. I don't regret getting this game.

Get In, Get Dirty, Get Out. Or Lead Salad Surprise: Cooking Up Disaster With Hitman
Review created: 04/28/04

Pros:
Great gameplay ideas. Many ways to accomplish objectives. Amazing level of immersion.

Cons:
A little bit of rehashing. Also, maybe a little too short.

I ll be the first to admit, I m a little strange. When the Indiana Jones trilogy came to DVD I became obsessed with the character all over again. I even donned a leather jacket (thanks Nate) and fedora for Halloween. Numerous belts of mine did double duty as whips whenever the mood struck. I just couldn t let go. For the past few weeks, however, I ve been an assassin. It started with the DVD release of Quentin Tarantino s Kill Bill Vol. 1, the soundtrack to which is in constant rotation in my car s stereo. I wanted, yea, needed a samurai sword (preferably Hatori Hanzo steel) and targets to...

Hitman Contracts will blow you away
Review created: 05/10/04
by: kannapali1 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Every little strategy counts - such as disguises, blending in, concealment of weapons, etc.

Cons:
Killing over and over again does get a little old after a while

In this game, you are Agent 47, a ruthless hitman with no heart or compassion. Just guns and other assorted weaponry. Your assignments can take you anywhere from Siberia to Hong Kong, and you live by the psychology of assassin: To look upon the act of killing with complete indifference is to reach the point at which there are no more barriers left to cross. Anybody under the age of 17 is recommended not to play this game, due to the violent content and adult situations. The first level starts out in a Romanian asylum, where every other occupant in the building is a deranged replica of you....

  Yes, it's come to this -- A Hitman clip-show.

Pros:
It's more of an enjoyable formula. Great sound and music. Many possibilities to complete missions.

Cons:
Looking a tad dated graphically. Not enough emphasis on stealth this time around. Disjointed non-story.

I have been a regular follower of the exploits of Agent 47 so it was with considerable pleasure that I purchased this latest instalment of his macabre adventures. As with the previous two games, Hitman: Contracts places the player in the role of our bald, black-suit clad anti-hero. The game play is more or less identical to Hitman 2: You must complete increasingly challenging missions of assassination and/or retrieval, using only your wits, stealth and whatever deadly weapon may be at hand. Graphically, Hitman: Contracts is attractive, but looking a little dated. The game almost has a ported..

Contracted to maim. Contracted to slaughter. Contracted to repeat itself!

Pros:
Decent stealth action, when on the harder settings, some nice weapon choices, non linear gameplay.

Cons:
Hardly any different from Hitman2 and now its looking a little dated, Poor AI.

INTRO: Hitman III: Contracts makes little effort to disguise its name, but why should it? It s bloody brutal and cunning and mostly straightforward, like the title. For those of you who don t know this is the next in the line of the greatly mediocre series of Hitman games, the last being 'HITMAN 2 : SILENT ASSASIN' This came out in 2002 and they revolve around you, playing agent 47 who believe of not is a hitman hired to do various contracts and missions. The only problem with Hitman 3 Contacts is that it feels almost the same as Hitman 2, which felt almost the same as the first. However the.
