Consumer can has a choice when using the equipment.
Pros: This Camcorder really is a one-of-a-kind digital video recorder! It is cutting-edge technology at its best and at a reasonable cost to consumers. Hitachi is, of course, one of the best brands of digital video recorders available today.
Cons: There are simply no discernible cons associated with the Camcorder. It really is an excellent product and an excellent value.

When I was looking for a new camcorder, I suppose I wanted the best of everything - all the pro features, lightweight, cheap to run and uncomplicated to operate. I also wanted somethingthat wouldn't cost a fortune to buy. With the Hitachi DZ HS300A UltraVision I found it!
One of the new generation of hybrid Camcorders, the Hitachi combines the convenience of using 8cm Cd-Rw discs a s rcording medium with an on-board 8Gb hard drive for instant useability. This means that, even if you run out of Cds, you can still record acouple of hours-worth of film using the camera alone. What's more, you can actually write Cds in the camera from the hard drive, making it easy to save and store film if you are away from home.
It's easily used by any member of the family, being small and lightweight - the biggest single component being the CD drive.Its not complicated to use, the controls are easily accessed, its got amazing zoom and audio capability too. All this for less than the cost of a standard digital camera.

this camcorder works great but I don't know if it is because it is refurbished or what , it doesn't take clear pictures no matter if it is on the hard drive, sd card or disk thay are all fuzzy

This camcorder is great for the price. The main feature I love is the ability to dub DVD's straight from the hard drive.
Pros: Flexible (DVD and HDD), great close-ups, great zoom, good color reproduction, better low light quality than I expected at this price.
Cons: None really but the picture quality is good+ but not great. Picture is really no better or worse than most camcorders in this price range. Also menu is a bit complicated. Most low to mid-priced camcorders have low quality stills, as does this.
All in all I am very happy with this camcorder.

After reading some negative comments on this camcorder, i was kind of resistant on buying the item, So far i've enjoyed it. Have not used all the settings, but am very pleased with it so far, easy to use also. I think i made a great investment with this camcorder.

I have used this same model of camera at work and wanted one of my own. It is a great budget camera and has a fair number of features for the price. It produces a good standard definition picture and video clips are easy to download from the camera's hard drive. The lightweight and compact design allow you to carry it anywhere.

Chrome exterion, compact and does the job, I like the 6 hours recording time on the built in hdd.The digital zooming capability is great, the dubbing to dvd's is easy. It can be used as a camera for still pictures.

Never had a video camera before. This one is easy to use or at least figure out how to use. I like the internal HDD and the option to record directly on mini-dvd's. The sellers handling was outstanding.

The camara is awesome looking and has a ton of features. The problem is the quality of the image. It was basically average in decent light and below average in dark light. The ability to record on the 8 Gig drive and then burn right to DVD is unbelievable convenience. If your looking for a entry level HD/DVD camera definitely take a look. If your looking for high-end great looking recording, go for the Everios or other models.

IT WAS A SURPRISE THIS CAMERA. WORKS WITH HARD DRIVE, WITH MINI DV AND MEMORY CARD. IT S REALLY SIMPLE TO USE AND VERY POWERFULL. I HAVE MANY CAMERAS, LIKE JVC 60 GIGA, SONY MINI DV, YASHICA AND PENTAX, DIGITAL AND NOT BUT THIS CAMERA IS REALLY THE BEST.

This product has some excellent features, particularly the hybrid mode. Though I haven't used the mini-DVD yet, I like the idea of being able to make one for friends on the fly. I'm hooked on the Hard Drive function. Be prepared to suck up some hard drive space on your PC, though. Works really well outside and reasonably well inside. Think LIGHTING (like all camcorders). Some drawbacks are no input (so you can record from another source like DVD player, another camcorder, satellite, etc.) and no remote control (these features come with the HS330A) and worth the extra bucks. It can take still pictures but I've been spoiled with my digital camera and will likely take both with me (get a big enough camcorder bag to hold both) since I like stills better than movies. Software is a little simplistic, but does the job. Again, this is a GOOD product. At the right price, it's worth a purchase, particularly for folks who aren't SERIOUS recorders.

Haven't tried the hard drive yet. Recorded several dvd's. Only problem I had was finding a dvd player in Haiti. Hotel owner had one and all the discs were excellent. Recorder is easy to use right out of the box. I forgot the manual at home so had to figure out how to use it on my own. A very simple recorder to use, review and finalize. Recordings were excellent and I can't wait to get home and look at the manual so I can explore all the features of recorder.
Am very pleased with the product. Last trip to Haiti I took still pictures. I know my parents and the others at the nursing home will love the movies.
I have not encountered any problems. Even without the manual I was able to take some excellent shots. I highly recommend this product.

I researched Camcorders for a month before the purchase of the Hitachi Camcorder. I liked the idea of having both a HDD and DVD in the same Unit, it also has a SD card for stills. I found the Camcorder sound Fantastic full auto setting great for school games. The direct dub to dvd is very handy when away from home for a while. If the instructions are read front to back it really makes for easy use. The Zoom is great as well. I would highly recomend this camera for home use. Many extra lenses and lights available on EBAY.

The Camera is great, but feels more like a toy. It shouldn't for that price. It actually uses minDVDs, not DVDs like it's described by Hitachi. I bought it for that reason because the mini only holds from 30 to 60 mins at the highest quality depending on if you buy the dual layered. If you're going to record at anything less than the highest quality, GOOD LUCK! It doesn't have the night vision mode (I thought every camera had it now so I didn't think to check). Audio recording in the video is not that great. MAKE SURE you buy the WIDE ANGLE lens as they help improve the video quality. Also, this camera is not designed that well for taking still pictures (640X480). Overall, its a great design, but it still feels like a toy. UltraVision my BUTT!!!

this is one of the best camcorder ever i experienced. Record movies on hardrive as well as on DVD. It can copy movies stored on harddrive with a press of a buttoninsert to a blank dvd so you don't need it to move to pc then burn it.

The DZ HS300A is just what I needed. The HDD/DVD combo keeps me from having to buy many dvd's and with the quick recall system you can watch what you've recorded without any hastle. I recommend this camera if you're a point and shoot camera man as, in the long run, it will save you money.

This is a great camcorder.I love the small size, clarity of this camcorder. It's very easy to use and light. The picture doesn't jump as bad as older camcorders and the picture is of a much greater quality. I highly recommend this product.
