In the early 1990s, Green Day injected the punk scene with a new life, introducing their catchy pop riffs infused with lyrics that reflected the current slacker mentality. Influenced by such first-generation bands like the Buzzcocks, the group introduced punk to a new generation, and the award-winning record DOOKIE managed to perfectly capture the mindset of a generation. The release of their 2004 album, AMERICAN IDIOT, retained their hardnosed criticism of American culture with songs like "Jesus of Suburbia" and of course, the title track.
