Between 1876 and 1888, a Frenchman named Albert Racinet produced a six-volume History Of World Costume. One of the earliest books on the subject, its scope and detail have never been surpassed. The Historical Encyclopedia of Costumes is a re-creation of Racinet's masterwork.
