The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes
I have loved this poem since I read it as a child in a literature class. It is a beautiful and classy love story about the 1770s innkeepers daughter and her highwayman boyfriend. My only complaint is that the "artist" apparently never read the poem or he wouldn't have put the highwayman on a motorcycle in modern times. As an artist myself, I feel that the illustrations did nothing but take away from the epic beauty of Noyes' lovely work. It would also be very confusing to young people to see the "French cocked hat" as a beret or the redcoats as machine toting g-men. Shame on you. Still the poem speaks for itself and I love it dearly.
