High School Musical (DVD, 2006, Encore Edition)

High School Musical is one of the best movies that has been produced in the past several years!! It is fun and energetic, making you want to sing and dance along. It is a clean, wholesome movie that is acceptable for people of any age to enjoy. My 8 year old loves this show and has all the words to the songs memorized and loves to act out the different scenes. He couldn’t wait for it to come out on DVD and the day it was released I bought a copy. The DVD hasn’t had much rest since that day! :o)
The storyline is wonderful as it shows just how selfish people can be and the pressures that teenagers face. For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of seeing this show here is a short synopsis: Troy (Zac Efron), the popular captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella (Vanessa Ann Hudgens), the brainy and beautiful member of the academic club, break all the rules of East High society when they secretly audition for the leads in the school’s upcoming musical. Eventually, their friends find out and aren‘t happy about it. Troy’s friends are afraid he will lose his concentration and cause his teammates to lose the upcoming basketball sectional. Gabriella’s friends are afraid she will lose her concentration and cause them to lose the upcoming competition they are wanting to win. So, they do everything they can to keep Troy and Gabriella from getting the parts they auditioned for. As they reach for the stars and follow their dreams, everyone learns about acceptance, teamwork and being yourself.
Newcomers Zac Efron (Troy), Vanessa Ann Hudgens (Gabriella) and Lucas Gabreel (Ryan Evans) are brilliant young actors. They harmonize well together in both the singing and dancing scenes. Ashley Tisdale is wonderful as the snobby, self-centered Sharpay Evans. She is also a great singer and dancer.
In all I give this movie a two-thumbs up, a rating of a perfect 10 and I highly recommend it to everyone!!

The High School Musical is set primarily in a High School setting and is about a teenage boy and girl who want to star in the school musical togeter, but keep facing conflicts from the previous stars of the musical, their friends, and their other exra-circullar activites. In the end their friends, who are form differnet social groups, work togeter, to help them make to their call backs. This is a movie approaite for all ages, and will have everyone dancing and singing along. I personally have seen it twice on televison and now am ourchasing my own copy so that I can watch it for my self and share it with others. There are no vulagareties, sexual themes, or voilence in this movie. If you want a great movie that the whole family can enjoy, High School Musical is it!

While the movie is slightly reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet or even Grease with the characters from two different worlds coming together, that is pretty much where the similarities end. The overall theme of this movie is about taking chances and doing what's in your heart despite the expectations that others might have for us.

Zac Efron and Vanessa Anne Hudgens harmonize together beautifully and the thing I liked the most about this movie is there is a complete lack of sexual undertones that can go along with this type of movie. It's clear that Troy and Gabriella like each other, however, there is no obvious sexual tension...which is VERY refreshing.

I thought this was a great movie. My 5 year old loves it. The music is very well done and the actors are super. The teens in the movie don't over-do it with the acting at all and you are genuinely pulled into the movie and care about the characters. This is a great movie for young and old.

This is a movie for all ages & it helps boys realize that you can mix sports & music and still be COOL! Great buy...the soundtrack will sell like hotcakes after kids see this movie.

If you haven't seen or heard about the movie, now is the time to go get it. Kids and adults alike will love the high energy, fun, and appeal of the story and the songs. This is definately the movie of 2006. The CD is great to listen to in the car and you will be singing along with the songs in no time.
My fourteen year old daughter wanted the CD as soon as it came out and her friends loved the songs. My eighteen year old son has some of the songs memorized and listens to the CD in his room all the time. My other children squabble over whose turn it is to listen to the CD. Neighbors kids have movie on first thing in the morning and sing and dance all day to the music. I bought the CD for my 96 year old grandmother and she loves the music. They were playing it through the system for bingo night last week! It definately is music for all ages.
The story is your basic boy meets girl and unexpectedly they connect through song which carries through the rest of the movie. This movie has a twist though because they never actually have any physical contact through the whole storyline which is very appealing and leaves the older audience remembering a time when movies were this fun. The innocence this movie portrays is mesmorizing in and of itself.
This movie reminds me of an old "Grease" in some ways without all the innuendos. High School Musical was well written and the casting is superb.
See it once and you will love it, see it twice and believe me you are hooked. This is music we will see popping up in school concerts year after year now!!

This is the best kids movie I have seen with the kids and have watched over and over. No bad language or those unsightly "sexual" induandos they seem to have in everything anymore. The songs get you up on your feet dancing with the kids. I would recommend this for kids and adults of all ages!!

its so nice to find a movie both my daughter and I can both enjoy! It started by her singing at the top of her lungs songs I didn't know - so I sat down during one of her millionth viewings - and found its a really nice story!

Not an original idea really - new girl in school, has talent, students are mean, school jock likes her - but is pulled by his team and coach etc etc..

But the music in the movie is contagious! I find myself boppin right along with her - its a pleasant way to spend time with young kids. Wholesome and fun!

Its an awesome dvd, you will want to watch it over and over.

This generation's version of the classic "Grease". My 8 year old daughter asked us to record the show when it first came out - the entire family has since watched it at least a hundred times! We've also bought the CD and I find myself listening to it in the car when the kids aren't even with me! My 4 year old son has the entire CD memorized...very catchy tunes and a good clean message in the movie.

This is such a cute movie. I almost didn't watch it, now I'm glad I did. 'High School Musical' is definately one for the whole family.

I'm a big fan of the Disney Channel, I've watched it all my life (I'm 17). I have to say that this is the best movie Disney has ever produced. It is amazing from start to finish. It is the highest rated orginal production Disney has ever had, and they're already working on a sequel.

This may or may not help you out, but I have a friend who is extremely consrvative, values good morals, dislikes anything anti-God, etc., and she really likes this film. She's a hymns and classical music girl, but the music is so catchy that even she appreciates it! To me, that's one of the highest reccomendations I can give.

I have twin girls that are 6 years old, a lot of the movies they want to see with teenagers in them are not appropriate for their age group. High School Musical is awesome, it shows how all the teens in different cliques can become friends and work as a team. There was no cursing, kissing or touching, It was wholesome and enjoyable for the entire family. I highly reccomend this movie and the Soundtrack.

I bought this DVD on eBay for my grandchildren (7 yr. old boy and 5 yr. old girl) before it was released to the public. They loved it on the Disney Channel and wanted the DVD to learn the dance moves and the karaoke sing-a-long. It has been a constant "watch it again" movie and now all their friends ask for a movie night at their house to see High School Musical. The positive story line provides consistent upbeat reinforcements for encouraging moral values and standards that children need. My grandson has fallen in love with Gabriella (Vanessa Anne Hudgens) and thinks Troy (Zac Efron), is terrific since he also plays basketball and loves to sing and dance. One of the female counselors at his Christian summer camp was a dead ringer for Gabriella and our 7-year old was smitten with her as well. Not only do the children love High School Musical, but the adults in our family enjoy watching it again...and again...and again. That's not true of all movies aimed at young people. Disney has hit a slam dunk with this one!

We love this movie...it has a good and positive story line (about cliques in high school and how kids should just be themselves). My 9 and 7 year old love it and my 3 year old loves the music and knows most of the songs. The actors are good young actors and the dancing is cool too. It's a great movie overall!

I love this movie. I am 18 but i still love the plot and the songs are awsome. I was first introduced to this on a youth trip with my church. This girl had a portable DVD player and she let me watch it but before it ended the batteries went dead. I loved this movie and it is so awsome.

This movie is excellent, the cast was well chosen and the musical numbers are well choreographed. This is definitely an awesome movie. The encore edition is great it teaches you the dances and you can watch the movie sing along version. Very cool, the children love it.

I bought 2 for my granddaughter and daughter and they have played it at least 50 times each. It's a great dvd for kids.

My daughter and I both love it! Great story line and wonderful music!! We bought the soundtrack and yesterday rushed right out to Walmart to buy it. I was surprised that they were selling it for $15.84. I was so excited that I bought one for my daughter's friend who will be celebrating a birthday soon. Both the movie and soundtrack are addictive. Try this great movie!

The story is about a Basketball Player and an Intelligent Singer who meet at a ski resort and sing together with some chemistry. The girl Gabriella later moves to Troy's High School. The songs and dances are really fun to watch and I enjoyed the bulk of the movie. The plot isn't obviously as deep as you might want if your an adult... One of the reasons why I loved Newsies so much... But it is a Disney Channel Original.
The lessons kids can learn from the movie are great... That you should do whatever you love and not be forced to doing sports or anything else by your parents, friends, etc... Basically, it brings up a point that we all try to teach the generation to come... "Be Yourself"
If you are a "So you think you can dance" or "dancing with the stars" fan then you will be pleased to know that a few of the people in High School Musical can also be found on the Television. Alison Holker from SYTYCD Season 2 is seen dancing as a cheerleader in a few scenes, and Monique Coleman who is in DWTS plays an academic overachiever. There is the blonde girl from suite life of zack and cody who plays a snotty drama queen but I wish there would have been some type of deserving finish to her part in the movie like something falling on her or her getting hit by a bus (Mean Girls Reference)

Well, I enjoyed this movie, and my girlfriend loved it... And we are both 20 years old without kids... So I imagine this one is a movie for everyone..

A wonderful story for the entire family. The soundtrack is addictive--so be prepared to purchase that too!! Highly recommended--my 9 year old watches it all the time & sings all the songs.

my little girl absolutely loves this movie,its all she talks about and from her plans for the future zac efron is my future son in law lol. after seeing this movie my daughter wants anything and everything to do wtih this movie and there is a sequel apon us so if you have deprived your child of seeing this one get it now before the second installment. this is an innocant version of grease the songs are well written and have a catchy beat. this is a movie that a mom and daughter could watch together get some popcorn and snocaps and sit down and enjoy a girls night together,youll find yourself singing along and talking about boys,friends,school,interests,secrets and its those times where a mom and her little girl can bond. and once shes seen it a few times and memeorised it all shell probably do what my little girl does which is reinact the whole thing complete with song and dance.

I've made online purchases before through half.com and never had a problem. I ordered the dvd and received an email confirmation saying that it was shipped but later found out that it came back to the sender, so the sender just canceled the order. yeah, i don't know what happened there...
