Album Notes HOW HIGH THE MOON contains 11 LPs on 6 CDs: THE HIT MAKERS (1955)/TIME TO DREAM (1957)/BYE BYE BLUES (1952)/LES & MARY (1955)/NEW SOUND VOL. 1 (1950)/NEW SOUND VOL. 2 (1950)/WARM & WONDERFUL (1962)/SWINGIN' SOUTH (1963)/LOVER'S LUAU (1961)/BOUQUET OF ROSES (1962)/THE COLUMBIA SINGLES COLLECTION (2001). This six-CD box set is, as its title indicates, the definitive collection of Les Paul and Mary Ford recordings. Containing the music from all 11 original LPs (amounting to 145 tracks), HOW HIGH THE MOON features all the duo's hits, including the title track and "Vaya Con Dios," among dozens of others. Ford's breezy voice and lighthearted delivery is the perfect counterpart to Paul's dazzling six-string adventures. Even in this relatively straightforward "pop" context, Paul's stylistic range and studio wizardry is readily apparent. Paul was one of the pioneers in the use of multi-track recording, and his gleaming, strange, handcrafted guitar symphonies can be heard beneath Ford's voice on many of these cuts. Though adventurous in their own way, the tunes are charming and accessible, and are collected here in their entirety.
